I will need a CPU, RAM and Mobo Recommendations.
I just want Performance that will blow the doors off my 775 setup and be FAST for years to come
, also be able to keep up with a GTX 680/780 SLI combo as well.
Let the Post War Begin! Thanks!
*NEED LINKS AND PRICES PLEASE!* eBay, OCN and Newegg are what i prefer, i live in the USA.
I also FOLD, so a HT and Quad/Hex would come in handy...
How many years are you talking about? If its as long as you've used your C2Q, you should really consider getting sth that has more than 4 cores.
Gaming-wise, a 3570K is the best bang for buck CPU right now. But it has only four cores. With both the new consoles having an octa-core CPU, games will probably start utilizing more cores than four. Not to mention games well-optimized for PCs. Crysis 3 is a very good example in this case.
Also, I don't know anything about folding, but if it can utilize more cores, then its all the more reason to get sth with more cores.
Why I'm against getting an LGA1155 CPU : i) low number of cores, ii) dead socket provides you with no upgrade options should you want to get sth with more cores.
Why you should get an LGA2011 CPU : i) higher number of cores, ii) socket hopefully won't die anytime soon (knock on wood) iii) if Intel does eventually release octa-cores, they would probably be on socket LGA2011, provided they do not introduce a new socket
Get a 3930K. When (or if) you need to, you can upgrade to an Ivy-E or Haswell-E when they come out. It would mean losing per-core performance compared to LGA1155 CPUs, but the extra cores I think are more important in your case.
Hope this helps!
