Remote desktop without Pro/Ultimate edition?

Thread Starter
I am just wanting to be able to use my older pc occasionally so I am wanting to use remote desktop. Unfortunately it is the Windows 7 Home Premium edition, and cannot act as a host.. Is there any way to get it to act as a host without paying $100 for the pro upgrade? I would prefer not to use any third party program like teamviewer.

Considering that is one of the few reasons to get the Pro version over home, I think you are out of luck without third party software.

You don't have any other options really other then running a remote desktop program like TV or UltraVNC.

There apparently is a hack to enable terminal services on win7 home. Details here: http://andrewblock.net/2010/02/23/enable-remote-desktop-on-windows-7-home-premium-64-32-bit/

I've never used this before, so try at your own risk. In the future I recommend getting Windows Professional. There are many advantages that make it worth the few extra bucks.

Thanks for that! I tried the hack but I still can't get my computer to connect, though everything seems fine on the host computer.
