Not sure if i should switch

Thread Starter
Im currently building a new rig and i was going to use parts from my old AMD system, i was going to buy this http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=wish_lists&wlcId=136805&action=wish_lists
but im wondering if im going to spend that kind of money i may as well just go with Intel and not have to worry about bottle necking and such
(my current cpu is an amd fx 8350)

My question is should i stick with this or buy a different board and a brand new cpu id like to keep the mobo rog branded or at least black and red themed
my over all budget is $5500 but as you can see iv put a dent in it so far

intel section for a amd build? Of course you should leave amd no reason not to if you are buying all new stuff.

well im upgrading to an intel system potentially so why not post it in the intel section

What are you using it for that would justify paying $1500 just for the MB/CPU? It's not like the 8350 is that slow, especially at multi-threaded stuff. I really doubt that CPU is holding you back much in games, even with 2x7970s. And even if it was, a 3930K isn't good enough?

the 3970k extreme is a pretty serious chip.....the 3930k would be more than enough,,unless your planning on running the mars rover LOL

Agreed.

There's no reason to get a 3960X/3970X over a 3930K unless you absolutely must have that extra 3MB L3 cache, in which case I'd like to know what you're doing where that makes enough of an impact to justify spending twice as much.

Unless you just want to say you own an X-Series chip thumb.gif

Anyways, for an overall budget of $5500 dollars, here's what I would do.

So, do you just worry about bottlenecks or do you actually experience them?

No, OP. He said he worries about bottlenecks but didn't give any examples. I'm all about spending money on builds but $5000 to spend with what seems to be a pretty new rig already is a lot.
