Sapphire 7970 OC Voltage Locked?

Thread Starter
So I've had this card in my system for about 5 days and of course by now I've played around with the bios switch and overclocking the card. I'm currently running the card on bios 2 at 1125/1575 MHz at 1.200v with 20% powertune but I can't go any higher and be stable. I want to be able to increase my voltage above 1.200v but for some reason it will not budge. I can drag the slider in MSI AB all the way up to 1.300v and hit apply and run a stress test and the voltage will just sit at 1.200v. What am I doing wrong? Is this card voltage locked now too? Are there any ways around this? thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

Here is the card I bought for reference: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202008

Have you tried with Sapphire Trixx. These cards work well with sapphire trixx

Sorry I can't offer much input other than I received confirmation from Sapphire last week that this card IS NOT voltage locked smile.gif

I agree with above post that I often see these cards oc'd with best results using Trixx

Alright I'll try this version of Trixx. Do you recommend disabling ULPS? I've heard rumors that it helps when OC'ing.

yes you need to disable it. Only then can you unlock voltage
post #7 of 8
You do not have to disable ULPS, at least I don't.

The newest version of Trixx is 4.6.0

Only one of the two bioses on your card is unlocked. You probably need to switch to BIOS1 and you'll have voltage control.

Alright I'll try this! I haven't even touched Bios 1 because it has lower stock clocks, and I'll leave ULPS on then. I'll report back if Bios 1 has voltage control or not.
