Can not permanently delete old messages

  • What happened?
    I have dozens of old messages in my 'trash' folder. There is no option to delete all of the messages in the trash. There is only a "Move to...." option.

  • Are you able to reproduce this problem consistently?
    Yes. I can select a message in my inbox, I then choose delete and it goes to the trash. There is then no option to permanently delete one or all of the messages.


  • What steps did you take to reproduce this problem?
    I moved everything in my inbox to the trash and tried to delete the trash folder. Does not work. I created a new folder, moved everything from my inbox to the new folder, and lastly I tried to delete the new folder. all of my messages were moved back to my inbox.

  • What action did you expect to occur when this bug appeared? I expected the folder and its contents to be permanently deleted.


  • Any additional information that will help us diagnose the issue:


  • Browser, active browser addons, and operating system:

    Firefox 18.02, Windows 7 64 bit, SP 1
  • URL where the issue occurs:
    In my personal Inbox and trash folders.

It may be stupid, but this is the way it's supposed to work.  So, I just pretend that I don't have a Trash folder.

Once you have initially deleted it, just go to your trash bin and delete it again from there. It should be permanently removed. You'll need to delete the pm manually and open them manually.

The trash folders are purged nightly but the last 20 PM s are kept.

You wouldn't believe the number of complaints we received regularly about accidentally deleted PMs that were forever lost under the old system. As is now, we purge the Trash folder nightly, but always keep the last 20 messages you deleted - this gets rid of messages for members who send and delete a lot, but avoids the problem where a few hours after you deleted something you suddenly realize you needed it.

All we need to do now is convince everyone that if they don't like it, then don't look in the Trash folder.  Just pretend it's gone for good.  :)
