Putting sensor between CPU and cooler ? - Page 3

what mootfox is showing is sticking it to the mobo instead that it makes any contact with the CPU/IHS.

i will look how much room i have (the K8 clip is gone due to the replacments of the metal clips of my 120mm heatsink), and then i have to figure out what i'm gonna use to stick it it to the IHS...

anyone got ideas what i can use ?

you could remove the ihs and then put the sensor on the cpu pcb and stick the ihs back on with silicone not sure if that would work but its an idea

that won't work, the sensor has 2 wires attached to it, that means i have to make a cut into the IHS to make it even fit, and even if it would work then i would crush the sensor because of the pressure between the IHS and the CPU...

I would have it like this, held on with Arctic Ceramique

i think i will stick it to the copper piece of the heatsink and the IHS (what's left of it )

i think those position is the best solution for getting almost real temps
post #26 of 37
You have the right idea, but the temps measured from the base of the heatsink will be quite a bit lower than measuring right from the IHS like frostbite has posted.

Either way though, will give you a good idea of temps

what frostbite has posted will be the same thing as i will do, but because the sensor is 5 mm wide i will stick it to the IHS and to the side of the copper heatsink.

Frostbite has it correct when the CPU has an IHS, if the IHS is removed attach it next to the actual core.
The ultimate correct was is described below in how to incert it into the HS it self, if possible. Eventhough it's an Socket "A" illustration the methodology is the same regardless of what core or brand with the exception of dual sensors for dual cores in which the locations could be altered to better accomidate the reads of each core. You may however have to adjust for the dept to propperly seat the thermister in the center area of the HS of a singel sensor setup.

putting anything between your heatsink and cpu is just askin for less performance =). I have one of thoes on my case and I let it hang in my case giving me a case ambient temp.

my fancontroller has 4 of them... so gives you an idea what i can do and spare, i want 1 CPU, 1 ambient, and the 2 other i still don't know. gonna run SLI eventualy but maybe an mobo temp would be nice also
