Sounds coming out of wrong speakers 7.1??

hi I just bought a hd 6450 gpu which has 7.1 soundcard inbuilt.
I have installed it both the gpu drive and ati soundcard driver.
hdmi goes from gpu to onkyo tx-sr605 and from av reciver to sharp tv.
I am running win 8 64 .
the screen works fine , there is sound but the sound comes from the wrong speakers.
the wiring is from av to speakers fine as it hasn't changed since before installing new gpu.
in control panel I go to sound and properties of ati sound card and there dosent seem to be any conflicts at speaker setup in win 8 I have chossen 7.1 speaker setup.
when sounds playing it says on av multi channel...

the 2 top back speakers give the sound of front l/r and center speakers.....
....
weird????
it was working fine before so I reckon it has with the sound card to do.
the sound card was just downloaded from ati/amd so it should be the latest.
any ideas???

an update just found out some movies it works fine like hd starwars and hd john carter.
but tried rango none hd and it diologe came from back top speakers as well...

I went back on sound card and tested sound speakers.
when I press 2 l/r front speakers the sound comes both from front l/r and 2 back top speakers.

thanks

First of all, welcome to overclock.net.

If during the "speaker test" the sound comes out of the right speakers, that I doubt it is a driver or hardware problem.

1.) Are these movies in Pro Logic, Dolby Surround, Dolby TrueHD, DTS, ect..? It could be a codec related problem.

2.) Are these downloaded movies? Steaming movies? Physical DVDs? It could be a problem with your settings.

2.) What software are you using to watch these movies? VLC? Netflix? Windows Media Player? It could be a media player problem.

3.) With DVD's you have to go into the menu settings, and manually select 7 channel surround. With media player like VLC you may have to manually over-ride the defualt sound options. ect. How is your media set up?

You say the sound is coming out of the back speakers during some movies in incorrect? A lot of times if 7 channel surround sound is not correctly detected, it will put the same audio on the front and back speakers.

hi there thanks for reply.
I use media player classic on win 8.
I have even tried with different codecs. installed madvr and another to see if it made any different. it didn't

I have chosen 7.1 on mpc and windows sound speaker config.
on my onkyo av the sound from virgin tv hd-box is fine.
but from htpc nope.
one thing is on onkyo I could use its own decoding before when I used audio through other digital inputs. but through hdmi I cant. it goes to multichanned pcm or direct inputs only. (I could use than neo before which was pretty good for changing stereo into soround.)....
I tried different movies from different soruces. the movies which already hav 5.1 in them works fine but movies that don't it dosent. the sound comes from front and back speakers ..... dialog coming from back of my head...smile.gif
so I reckon its some thing to do with software related rather than hardware.
but why don't I get other options of onkyo sound like(neo-) available through hdmi anymore?
I can get my head around how to fix it.
