Time for a new Beginning! Can I haz more CPU please?

Hello, I'm UltraNoob.
Very nice to be here in the company of all you experts smile.gif

I was just feeling that my current rig is a bit long in the tooth more so because of the 8 gigs of RAM I'm currently running (400MHz DDR2 is nothing to joke about) and the Graphics card (Was a GTX 295, now a GTX 680).

In terms of Upgrading, would the kind fellas on this forum recommend waiting for "Haswell" or simply just straight out upgrading to something that's current?

My current Budget is somewhere around $400 but It can definitely (but preferably not) go up to ~$600

Current Rig:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550
Gigabyte EP45-UD3P
4x OCZ PC2-6400 (400 MHz) 2048 MBytes

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680

1x Seagate Barracuda 500 GB (System)
Windows 7/Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
2x Seagate Barracuda 2TB (Storage)

Coolermaster M2 Silent Pro 1000w

Noctua NH-D14 CPU Cooler
PLEASE NOTE: Some RAM modules are incompatible with the NH-D14 due to height restrictions
http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=compatibility_ram_gen&products_id=34&lng=en

P.s. I did forget to apply thermal paste to the stock fan for the cpu once before I bought the aftermarket cooler and I think RealTemp clocked in about +100*C, and ever since then It blue screens every now and then whistle.gif

EDIT: This is a Gaming Rig, that also does After Effects Rendering.

Currently looking at this build

MB: ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 -$200.97
CPU: AMD FX 8350 - $207.96
RAM: G.Skill GS-F3-1866C10D DDR3-1866 16GB Kit 2x8GB $107.95

Current Price: $516.88

OR

MB:Asus P8Z77-V-PRO $213.98
CPU: Intel CORE i7 3770K $331.00
RAM: G.Skill GS-F3-1600C9D-16GSR DDR3-1600 16GB Kit 2x8GB $98.90

Current Price: $643.97

Current Budget: $650[WAS $500, $600]

What kind of programs are you running gaming rig?

If gaming i would go with an AM3+ combo cause the 680 will kick butt.

Ah, yes sorry. I forgot to add that I do a fair bit of after effects on this rig in addition to gaming!

You should look at reviews surround the FX 8350's, as they have 8 cores and will come in handy.
Cheaper then Intel setups and do almost the same gaming wise etc...

AMD FX-8320/8350
Gigabyte 990fxa-UD3
1866 DDR3 memory of choice or Samsung Wonder Ram
An SSD maybe?

Should be a kick butt setup! Make sure you put some thermal past on this time rolleyes.gif haha
Also, make sure you still have the AMD mount for your Noctua.

Edit: Sorry, I didn't even realize this was the Intel section! I'm not sure what the best budget parts are for Intel, but I suspect you won't be able to get a 3770k.

I have a few things to clarify first.

1. This is the intel section, correct?

2. You could describe me as a bit of a coward in terms of trying out new stuff and AMD isn't exactly my area of expertise.

3. I possibly want to see Intel options first, without being rude to others.

EDIT: I re-read my post and thought I should mention I have nothing against AMD.

That's fine dude, it's just we all love Intel and i Love AMD also.
When you have a small budget and you need ram included in this price AMD will be the way to go.

Here is my suggestion: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1198882
This link is for a Intel Core i7-3770K with ASRock Z77 Professional LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard BUNDLED TOGETHER.

I picked some RAM too
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145347
This link is for CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model

Subtotal: 601.97
You will be a over your budget in shipping but well worth it in my opinion.

Nuh-uh. Won't cut it. Use the Wonder RAM, get a 3570K, and a better MoBo. Here ya go:

+1 for wonder ram, though I think he may be looking for a higher thread count than the 3570k can offer. I second the AMD Fx-8350/8320 proposal.
