The new 4th-gen Core (codename: Haswell) architecture i5/i7-4xxx CPUs and corresponding Z87 chipset motherboards should be coming out in June, and there are rumors that they'll be more overclocker-friendly. Of course, no one really knows if those rumors are true yet, but if your timeframe is early 2014 it can't hurt to wait and see.

this, if your timeframe is 2014 i would just save your money and get the next platform haswell which yes the flagship chipset should be named z87 with an lga1150 sck so any CPU you buy now will not be compatible. also by then the next series graphics cards will be out as well. so yes save your pennies.

No MSI suggestion try the GD80 if you can wait or GD65 (£180 or £140 respectivly) if you can wait and fancy trying thunderbolt, GD80 is/will be the cheapest with that, plenty of room for a 2 GFX and a sound and wifi module.

Looks good and has good waranty with plenty of features to last!

yeah I'm doing the build now so I can have a rough estimation on prices. overall most of the majority of the parts should hopefully get cheaper over time save a few things like the case and stuff I'm gonna order from MNPC tech.
saw this really cool Dual 5.25" dual bay reservoir by frozenQ with a DNA helix design. shame it has a lot of faults really bad reviews. apparently it leaks too! frown.gif

Isn't the GD80 for AMD builds?
I'm doing a generic Intel, Nvidia build.

Look what you've done.
Now I can't decide which one I like more. the UP5 or the GD80.

whats the bandwidth of the 3 pcie x16 sockets on the GD80?
also memory clocks are a little annoying. then again, DDR4 will probably be out by the time I begin building.

well its 3 by pcie 3.0 so im not sure..

most likley itll be 16*8*8? can someone clarify?

and DDR4 isnt scheduled till late '13 and it'll most lickely be hella expensive, not so supported and very limited in range so you may as well stick with the DDR3 anyway if you arent exactly sure smile.gif

If you populate all the slots it's 8x/4x/4x
2 slots = 8x/8x
1 slot = 16x
DDR4 won't be available on consumer platforms until 2015 (Skylake).

If we don't consider the price difference (if any), UP5 is pretty much better in every way.

But as everybody else said, Haswell is LGA1150, and this thread is pointless if you plan to buy in 2014.
