Cougar PSU, are they reliable? - Page 4

http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/printpage/Cougar-RS-650-W-Power-Supply-Review/1323

"The Cougar RS 650 W is, in reality, a 600 W power supply, as it explodes if you try to pull more than 600 W from it. We tested two samples, with the same results."

HEC produces PSUs of widely varying quality.
I have the Cougar ST 600W, it's just an 80%+ efficiency though (I'm thinking its just 80.0001% efficient at most biggrin.gif, prolly a marketing strategy lol rolleyes.gif), not even a bronze. However works well for my Rig. Check it in the sig, when talking about PSU's 12V watts is what you should really look at other than the 80+ rating. That PSU is around P2,500, from the Philippines as well so I know how the PSU behaves in our extremely hot environment. However, if given a chance, I'd take anything that is at least an 80 bronze, at least 600W and a good brand like Seasonic. I hasn't exploded on me yet though, *knock on wood* I hope it doesn't. Mine is running my 7970 OC'd quite well smoothly, check the sig.

Actually cooler master has stepped up their game in their low end psu's in the last month. They have just released the i500 w psu which will be replacing the eXtreme Power line, which was ummm not that good at all! I have received one of the new i500's from them in the last week and have had GREAT results with it. Running an 8320, 7950, ssd's, hdd's, dvd burner, antec 920, 7 case fans, and 6 UV CCFL's on the i500 with no problems whatsoever! They have also just released their new V series psu's which have gotten very good reviews. Information is sparse as of right now concerning the i500 series as they won't be available for sales unitl June

About that Cooler Master has a lot of new units

Lets start with the V series made by Seasonic there is now 750-850-1000 watts in that series

Next up we have the upcomming GX2 series made Enhance Electronics and i really hope these are better then the old crappy GX bronze series
There will be 400-450-550-650-750 watts units in this series

Next we have the G series also by Enhance Electronics and this will have 500-600-700 watts units in it

I still have no info on the Cooler Master I series

Back to Cougar PSU´s are they reliable well that depens on the models

OEM for Cougar is HEC for the most part and Andyson for the GX-S series only

Would i buy a Cougar unit the answer to that is the GX the GX V2 and the GX-S seems alright all the others they make i would not touch with a bargepole

HEC make a lot of units of everything i have seen so far that is not crap is the GX and GX V2 and thats says about about HEC
