Problem with VERTEX 3 & looking for new SSD

post #1 of 16
Thread Starter
well,
had a vertex 2, made some problems so i RMAed to OCZ and got a VERTEX 3 60GB
so far so good

last night built my new system, installed all and it went fine
today however the system freezes and the SSD has a GREEN + RED light on it

so i guess i have to RMA it again

but now i need a new SSD, 60GB~ is fine... its an OS only drive

my current options from a local store are:
* Crucial m4 64GB SSD MLC mSATA (well... the Z77e has msata, why not use it?)
* Intel 60GB SSD 330
* OCZ Vertex 4 2.5'' 64GB SSD SATA III MLC Retail
* Intel 60GB SSD 520 Series Sata III 2.5''

i also considering if its worth going for a 120G

The M4 and Intel are the more reliable of those you listed. Also check out a Samsung 840, 840 Pro, or 830 if you can find one.

As far as ssd's go i would not risk a used one, if you can go for a new 60gb. (what is cheap today could be expensive down the road keep that in mind)

Have you updated the firmware of your SSD?

I see, is it plugged into the Intel SATA ports?

If it is then I'd say it's faulty...

well, my current options from a local store, i need SSD ASAP
60GB
Intel 330
intel 520

120GB
Crucial M4
VERTEX 4

here i my thoughts on the issue
the intel 330 gb is the cheapest option, worked with 60GB so far and never needed more, but if you gonna buy one, buy a good one
a 50% price increase from the intel 330 to Crucial M4 gives me twice the capacity.

so i thinking of a M4 as a solution
but how is the vertex 4 compared to it?

Check this to get an idea of the performance:
http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/ssd-charts-2012/AS-SSD-Overall-Total-Score,2792.html

But remember, SSDs are plenty fast already so the differences between them don't matter too much. wink.gif

I would go for the M4 personally, unless the Vertex 4 is offered for a similar price.
