I think for SLi, it's a different scenario.

With single-card Kepler setups, the DC2, TF3, WF3 all run much cooler/quieter than, say, the FTW. Also, cards like the 690 and single pcb GTX295 (although they are sort-of blower-style, they used radial fans) ran way cooler/quieter than their ATi counterparts like 5990 which used a single blower-style fan to cool both GPU's.

IMHO, the only advantage of the axial/blower style HSF config is that they eject heat from the case. They don't seem 'better' to me in any other way. I've owned TONS of both style cards (as I know you have as well wink.gif) and except for SLi setups, I don't see how anyone could claim axial/blower style is better at cooling the GPU in a quiet fashion vs. radial fan designs, be they the type that blows down on a heatsink like the aforementioned DC2, etc, or across a heatsink like the 690 headscratch.gif

690 wasn't really quiet. It wasn't bad, but it was almost as loud as 2 Gtx570s in sli and louder than a 590. plus the 690 uses 1 fan when many custom GPU manufactures use 2 or more (Gigabyte). With a premium of $900 and rumors that they aren't letting their partners add custom fan designs to it, it leaves alot to be desired.

Like you said they are good for exhausting heat from a case as well as VRM cooling (air passes the VRMs before the core) but that's where it ends.

Looking forward to some benchmarks.

Fastest single GPU in the market is for sure. AMD did not have the "crown" for long.

And this is, IMHO, precisely why this card is being released so early/way before the 7xx line. I think nV's collective ego is bruised whenever they don't hold the single-gpu performance crown ... which they really don't as of this moment.

Actually it's probably that they think it hurts their sales when they're not known as having the fastest card ... or that's what they tell themselves anyways wink.gif

They're going to have to make a new crown for this behemoth's head! Titan took the crown from the 7970 and put it on his finger to wear as a ring wink.gif
