7950 Overclock - Lower Scores?

So got my PowerColor 7950 PCS+ back from RMA and they added UEFI GOP for me so I decided to stick the H80 on it using Dwood's bracket and overclock it best I can

So my original test showed that this wasn't stable:
1200core 1500mem
Core at 1131v and memory I undervolted from 1600 to 1500 as the elpida spec sheet says these chips are 1.5v rated

I found both core and mem not stable so found the following stable:

Memory at 1600v 1400MHz and core 1200MHz 1160v (volts can be fine tuned from that)

But the problem I got is that I then get much lower scores in 3DMark

For example Ice Storm I get 171028 when everything at stock, 174513 at 1050core/1400mem but at 1200core/1400mem it drops down to 15xxxx

What's going on here?

Temps are below 60C on core and vrms and ASIC is 81%

Pretty good clocks. I think you're the only other person I've seen hit 1200 with 1.13v. Nice temps as well.

First try something like HWinfo GPU scanner, or furmark, or just about any of those "power hungry" things. If it doesnt artifact, then try games. BF3, FC3, World of Tanks, and Metro2033 are supposed to be some of the best.

Make sure it doesnt throttle in games, too.

Well if your score decreases when OCd, it probably isnt stable, try 1,160V @ 1175MHz for example and see what score you get, btw 3dmark isnt very good stability-test so you need to test your clocks in demanding games as already suggested, wouldnt recommend using Furmark...Also first put your memory back @ stock and overclock your core and after that start OCing the memory, unstable memory clock can decrease the performance without "signs" of instability.

yeah lower scores means unstable OC. do not undervolt memory. leave it at stock voltage and clock settings. failed memory could reduce scores. run core first at 1100 mhz. note the benchmark scores. then at 1150 mhz and finally at 1200 mhz. see if there is gradual improvement. check 3dMark 2013, Heaven 3.0/4.0, 3dMark 2011. if required increase voltage if you encounter artifacts, crashes, freezes. btw if you can get 1200 mhz at 1.13v its excellent. you could probably go higher too with extra voltage. thumb.gif
