Not to mention, you can tweak your preference here without the 'need' for tube amps and all the expensive tubes in an mostly obsolete technology.

http://www.toneboosters.com/tb-ezq/ (Free! and scientifically valid!)
Why people would use expensive hardware to EQ your sound which you have zero / very minimal control over is beyond me.

As for headphones, I got them.....ehhhh a long while ago let's say. I was coming from the razer carcharias. An anime called K-On! came out, and I saw that one of the characters I liked was wearing them so the "buy happy" side of me wanted to buy them. So the super conservative consumer in me decided to temper my impulsiveness and decided to audition headphones.

After saying that my neighbor sort of threw a curve ball my way and it turned out that he has a CRAP ton of audio gear. I auditioned all the sennheisers, and I liked them, but the price was too high.

I went to best buy, and I went to friends, and I went here, and I went there. Between budget and musical preference, I actually liked the Q701s, bowers and wilkins P5s (only on the right equipment though) and the AD900s (the AD900x wasn't out at that point). The deciding factor was that I found the Q701s on sale for 170. For that price, I couldn't say no.

If I had been rich back then, I would have gotten some vintage stax headphones.

That being said, honestly, the Q701s aren't as bad as people. They really reflect what type of gear you are using. If you are using a asus xonar DG sound card, then they will sound like crap. If you use a 1K+ system, they sound pretty decent.

Edit: almost forgot. The reason I use tubes vs software is because tubes are good and software is bad. Another way to look at it is this. If that software were good enough for audiophiles, then it would be utilized by all the SS companies to darken their amps a bit. Chances are it causes to much harm to the audio.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh Chinese wiki you shouldn't have said that. Measurements are completely useless. Take a look at some of the best audio solutions in the world and none of them have pretty charts and graphs or measurements.

Hopefully I have appeased enough of the audiophiles on this website to not flame this thread.

If you're already getting tube amp getting tubed DAC is kind of redundant.

http://www.mav-audio.com/base/product/tube_magic_d1

Few years ago people loved combo of A1 and D1 but the hype has died off slightly.
If you want to spend more money get the upgraded version and start rolling tubes.

Not really. The tubes will darken the sound slightly while SS will make it sound brighter (to be fair, I will say that SS dacs in my budget will brighten the sound tongue.gif )

just end this thread already. its obvious that most of the people hear have no idea what audio is and merely think its a bode plot, freq graph ect on a piece of paper.
chinesekiwi if you are fine with your program and science, im happy you have found your audio nirvana but not every one can settle for just an eq and solid state.

That's VERY stereotypical thinking. The sound signature of a component (whether it be tube or ss) will depend upon the circuitry and/or type of tubes. As I said earlier, not all tubed dacs sound the same. My Audio Note tubed dac sure isn't dark sounding and I have owned ss equipment that wasn't bright.

Because as we all know, science is the best way to measure art.

Only complete morons would think otherwise, jeez.

I should pull up my data on colour composition and image clarity that clearly depicts that Picasso was superior to Monet.
