Intel Build - How does this look?

Thread Starter
I'm limited to Amazon, and I know the CPU can be had for about $30-40 less, but this is just something I can't help tongue.gif. So how does she look? I'm itching to pull the trigger on my first Intel build.

I'm very open to suggestions, but honestly, the only limiting factor is that I have to order from Amazon. I'm willing to go NVIDIA, but I admittedly find the game bundle to be very attractive. Let me know what you guys think.

EDIT: Budget for these 4 components is $1k max.

Yeah, it'll be going into my sig rig. The only other thing I want to replace is my PSU (I know it's enough) as I'm eager to get a fully modular one, but that's honestly me just being nitpicky.

I would get the AX860 for a PSU.

IMHO ditch the Gigabyte and get an ASUS, either P8Z77-V or Maximus V Gene.

Vengeance RAM isn't worth it. Get the Samsung 1600mHz "Wonder RAM" in 2*4GB and you'll never regret it EVER!

The GTX 680 is better IMO. Get an EVGA GTX 680 Classified and you get Borderlands 2 free.

Im sorry, what? Not being a fanboy here, but the 7970 has consistently beat out the 680 in both benches and real applications/games. Why would anyone who isnt a fanboy go for it, especially since IIRC its more expensive?

I would get an AX860i

Something corsair isn't telling anyone is there is an issue with their AX860 where the PSU will make a whine noise when off. Corsair acknowledged the issue but no recall has been made. I got one from advance rma and one straight from newegg and both had issues. Check newegg reviews and corsair forum.

I meant the 860i.

It doesn't. Show me some benchmarks and then I will believe it. The 680 also draws less power and EVGA has the best customer service.

Well this escalated for the worst. I'll probably hold off on the PSU for now, TBH. I like my Gigabyte board now, and my friend hasn't had any trouble with the one we put in his. I'm happy with Gigabyte, TBH, unless there's some crazy advantage that the Asus board does. Also, I have Borderlands 2 already, and the other bundles that they are advertising for the NVIDIA cards are rather lackluster. It might be bias, but it's also significantly cheaper.

I agree on upgrading your power supply first. Look for one that is modular. Cooler Master Silent Pro, and Thermaltake Toughpower are two great brands. Looking at your list though, everything is fine and will get the job done. thumb.gif
