CPU PWM signal split to run not just CPU cooler fans but also case fans means case fans run same speed as cooler fans... 700rpm idle and whatever is needed to keep CPU cool under load.

Can also use GPU PWM signal (if you have it) to control airflow to GPU.

I've helped people setup systems this way several times now. No complaints yet. *knocks on wood*

The GPU pwm control sounds very interesting too. Can you give me a quick rundown on how to set it up?

The hardest part is finding the mini PWM connecters.

Short cable on left has mini PWM connecters. Yellow wire is PWM lead to standard PWM conector. Big black is molex. Yellow on right is rpm signal to mobo if you want.

Do you happen to know which of those 3 fans has the most concentrated airflow? I'm trying to create a wind tunnel effect in my case.

The Cougar Vortex are great fans, I'm using two 140mm and a 120mm in my case right now. If you get those, make sure you get the HDB or PWM. The default model is great, but not as quiet as the HDB in my experience. Also, I would still opt for the new Dual-X fans over the Vortex, I am really taken by their performance as they move more air around inside the case.

The Vortex do appear to make a more concentrated airflow, but that's a "hand" test and not a smoke test.

Alright so my Cougar Vortex fan (PWM version) came in today, and to be quite frank, the fan in my current setup is absolute junk.

For some reason when the fan is only able to suck air through the sides (which is the case in my case, no pun intended) it makes a really loud blowing sound.

On top of that, the my GPU temps with the fan in this setup are actually worse than with the stock Corsair fan. Yep you read that right, even the crappy stock fans that came with my case perform better.
I'm sure it's a problem with the whole side air intake situation, but it's a damn shame this fan blows.

Now, back to the drawing board as I'm probably going to RMA.

Slightly updated requirements: Mostly black (no tacky LEDs), good CFM/dB ratio, reasonably concentrated airflow, and has to be able to intake from the side without any issues.

Hm. That doesnt seem exactly right. The cougar is a good fan, maybe its just not right for your situation. Perhaps its creating a turbulence issue. Sorry its not working for you. Perhaps something in the whole scheme of your airflow needs to be modified. Perhaps give this thread a read. LINK.

Only other thing I can suggest are THESE or THESE.
The second suggestion are 140mm, but have 120mm mounts.

Alright so I returned the Cougar Vortex PWM.

Now the question is should I get a lower RPM Cougar Vortex (1200RPM vs. 1500RPM) and see if the problem goes away, or get a Silverstone AP122?

I've heard reports of other users who have the same case as me and Cougar Vortex fans, but with no issues.
