What are some good 120mm high airflow case fans? - Page 4

The Silverstone Air Penetrators are excellent for when you need a highly-focused column of air, but they are far from what I would consider "high airflow". However, if you have a HDD Cage literally full of hard drives, an AP12x/AP14x would work well.

I am thinking that for your needs, PWM fans are going to be the best option as I doubt you want to constantly fiddle with a fan controller. Here are some "fan"-tastic fans wink.gif, most of which are PWM but some are either Fixed Speed or Manually Adjustable...

Oh, one last thing: if you go with PWM, you'll want a way to control them and keep them all "in-sync" with one another.
I would recommend: Akasa SMART PWM Fan Cable Adapter for 5 Fans with Black Sleeving
You simply plug the control end into a motherboard PWM header, connect the 4pin MOLEX to power the fans, and then the other 5 headers go out to fans anywhere in the case! They'll all be controlled together, and you can setup a fan curve for all of them however you like in your BIOS (if applicable). That way, when the CPU fan picks up speed, the case fans will follow, or whatever. They're really awesome, and while I prefer a manual fan controller, these are just as good!

And now.....FANS!!!!!

Holy links! Thanks for those. (+rep)

The problem with PWM control is that my motherboard is rather iffy with this, and only supports basic PWM function through the CPU header. My CPU cooler is also an H70, so the fan on that needs to be running at 100% at all times.

I'm also worried that the additional molex cables will make a huge mess with the cabling in my case. My case does have sound dampening material muffling out the sound, so I wouldn't be too against running the fans at full speed 24/7.

The one fan that stood out to me was the Akasa APACHE S-Flow: black, focused airflow, decent CFM, and high static pressure (front intakes are very restrictive in my case).

Now the problem with my last fan (Cougar Vortex at 1500RPM) was that it made a huge wooshing noise when it ran at those speeds. Apparently it was simply pulling too much air? But I'm wondering if any of the fans listed above would also cause that problem.
The whooshing usually comes from a large amount of airflow THROUGH a restrictive area, like mesh or similar obstructions.

The Akasa fans are definitely quite nice, and if you are looking at them then I would also highly recommend checking out the Bgears Blasters for 140mm fans (typing from phone, no link lol). There is no better 140x25mm fan when it comes to static pressure, in my experience, but I didn't include it in the above list as I wasn't sure what noise level you are looking for. They are louder than the Cougar fans, but it's a deeper "more steady" sound. I don't mind running 6 of them at full speed.

Noise is a concern to me, but unfortunately I can only fit 120mm fans in the front.

So I'm looking at the Bgears now (the Akasa ended up being a bit too expensive for my tastes with the ridiculous shipping on PPC), and it looks like a decent fan. Only question I have though, is does the Blaster have a relatively concentrated cone of airflow?

http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/swhe12mmcofa.html...sorry these won't work you said mostly black....I generally use the cougars. Here is a list and different prices though. http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/120mmfans.html... Deltas are beast...though most are loud. The yates seem to be popular as GT replacements.

@Prymus

I could watch the Hulk do that all day.

The topic at hand:

Noise doesn't only have to do with the fans themselves, but as mentioned above restrictive opening, bad air flow patterns and loose wire can add to the amount of noise within your case. Try to secure wires and plan your air flow. I also found that thin foam lining the inside of your case can help muffle things. But when doing this watch your temperatures.

The restrictive intake is just part of how my case is designed. The dust filter + the angled intakes are the main reasons for this.

I added a inexpensive fan controller.. Cranked when I need it and turned down for general activity.

Well frankly every single side panel i've come across has very restrictive fan holes, a simple 64CFM fan (Well ... it's a 80mm so it's at 4500rpm biggrin.gif)
makes a ****load of noise mad.gif and barely any airflow
