GTX 580 Running Fiery...

I just got a Zotac GTX 580 recently, and it simply runs really, really hot.

I've read stuff about how it runs hot, but never before have I owned a card as hot as this! frown.gif I run a 460 right now temporarily and I was planning on sticking with this long term but I cannot because it absolutely sucks. I've considered RMAing but I might be SOL because I opened the card up to clean any dust and reapply the thermal paste (lost a screw too) and everything.

Add to the fact that the card throttles while I play some Battlefield 3 and it just pains me to see the card hitting 95C+ on load. I've underclocked and decreased the voltage but it still runs toasty. Anything above 95 and it starts to crash. Any ideas?

Was the screw you lost one of the four around the corners of the GPU? If so that would explain the continued heat problems even after the TIM replacement.

Only other suggestion I have other than RMAing it would be to try and isolate where exactly the problem is, for example is the air coming out of the card incredibly hot or is it luke warm? With that information you can tell if the heat is getting to the heatsink or not which would let you know if it's just bad contact or something or if it's a problem with the actual GPU internals themselves.

I have all of those screws, thankfully! It's just one of the screws that holds the shroud in place. The card, as usual, feels really hot everywhere, and yeah I do feel like the air that's coming out is really hot.

Well that tells us that there is heat being transfer to the heatsink which is good, but leads me to kinda believe that this may be a fault of some sort with the GPU itself. Granted we haven't done a whole lot of testing as of yet so that's just my guess, but I would try and contact the manufacturer and see what they say about it.

there is something wrong with your card. my 580 SC at stock values only goes to a maximum of 85C.
with custom fan profile it's even lower.

Just tried running FurMark... crashed as soon as I ran it. Something's definitely wrong.

Don't think I can even RMA because I lost the screw either...
