Which 27" QHD Monitor Should I Get? Korean I assume.

I noticed a lot of Korean monitors featuring the Quad HiDef technology.

And I was wanting to get a 27" monitor. I want the best panel I can get within reason.

Are there any significant differences between the following models?

27" IPS LED CrystalPro Monitor WQHD 2560x1440 @ MonoPrice
Auria EQ276W 27" IPS LED Monitor @ MicroCenter
CROSSOVER 2720MDP GOLD LED 27" or Pivot Version@ ebay
ACHIEVA Shimian QH270-IPSMS @ ebay
Yamakasi Catleap White Q270 LED Multi 2560x1440 WQHD S-IPS @ ebay

Or should I just get a couple trusty Dell 23" IPS monitors and dual monitor?

Or should I just get a Dell 27" Ultrasharp? The deal is as follows currently:
27-inch Dell UltraSharp U2711 2560x1440 IPS-Panel LCD Monitor for $649 with free shipping (normally $999 - use $350 coupon code RDSVHG$9FHDJ44)

If you're gonna get a 27"; I'd either go for the Dell U2713HM, or multi-mon with the U2313HM's.

You can actually get a good deal on 2 x U23 or U22's on Dell site with a monitor stand.

Uniformity & Consistency on the Korean monitors isn't great. They're good, but the increased price premium has made them less attractive than before. That said, the Monoprice is really the best option since you get a real warranty.

It's $220 on Newegg right now for the 23" versions. Is there a better deal on Dell? Also, I have one 23" Dell IPS at the moment so I would think it would marry well to that.

Problem with a Dell 27" is the best price I found is $650 and those Korean panels are ~$400 which is quite a bit cheaper. Are the panels that much better with the Dell monitor?

Considerably, yes.

Like wise, most of the Koreans have poor stands with little to no adjustments while Dell has full range adjustments on their Ultrasharp monitors. Which, as you can easily find, a good stand is another $150.

As for a deal on Dell, it's actually off now. Last week it was $600 for 2 x U2312HM with a dual monitor stand included.

Yes.

You get a 3 year warranty with advanced replacement option. Where you give them your CC, and they send you a shipping label & ship you a new monitor while you pack up your defective one to send back to them.

Like wise, Dell's dead-pixel warranty is among the best in the industry (if not the-best.)

More so, the improved stand, display uniformity, pre-calibration (so it will look just about dead on out of the box), combined with the added USB 3.0 hub just makes the whole package a great value.

It's not a 120hz panel. You're being duped.

I'm gonna keep this simple:

The Panels are not speced to do it.

DL-DVI cables do not have the bandwidth to support it.

You may get close to 120hz, but the best I have seen on very basic testing methods is around 113 frames per second. It's also generally results in frame dropping due to the vertical refresh rate switching up and down, instead of remaining constant.

As the poster at [H] said, the U2713H & U2713HM are better options than the old U2711.

A bit of a pro-tip. If you don't see a review with hard numbers for monitor tests, then don't even both reading it.

That PC Mag & Macworld reviews are useless as they tell you very little about what the monitor does.

I was facing the same choice last year and i went with Korean 27' 2560x1440 IPS and i couldn't be happier.
Dell is wayyyyyy overpriced , there are few well trusted sellers on E Bay and you can get pixel perfect version if you're worried or even buy out a warranty and still spend considerably less than on Dell.
I would advise reading few threads here on OCN about Korean monitors to get a better picture , those monitors are really really good and reasonably priced.

Tator tot, you with all the dell monitor praise is starting to seem a bit biased. The dell and korean monitor use the same panel and look virtually indifferent sitting side by side.

i dont think an extra 250$ for a 3 year warranty is worth it considering that that is 65% of a korean, overlord, or monoprice monitor would cost.

Go for the one at monoprice or overlord monitor, save the 250$, save a dollar every day until 3 years pass and then buy a nice UHD 30 inch monitor at 4780p

They don't though.

I have the Monoprice 27", as well as a U2212HM, U2410, & U2711.

If you take into consideration the U2713H being better in all regards to the U2711. As well as the U2713HM being mostly better, besides the wider color gammut, then please listen to what I'm about to say.

The Monoprice monitor isn't accurate. The panel may be the same, but that does not mean it's had the same level of care & attention put into the final product.

Dell calibrates their monitors so they all look good

The Monoprice monitor is a good value, but with a 1 Year warranty, and a good but not great dead-pixel warranty; you're still getting what you pay for. The stand is rubbish, the built in speakers sound like they came off the back of a smartphone, and the overall panel is neither consistent or accurate.

The reason these 27" monitors are so much cheaper compared to what Dell & other brands offer, is that they are the rejects from those brands. They did not meet or exceed the quality standards required by those brands.

If you have the $650 to drop on a monitor, the U2713H is definitely the way to go. If you only have $400 to drop on a monitor and you're not looking into a 120hz option, then the Monoprice is arguably the best value out of all of the inexpensive 27" / 1440p monitors out there.

Trust me when I say, they are not bad products. They just do not live up to the hype that they are given. Folks adore them because they're used to awful TN panels and low 1080p resolutions. With also 1.5x the displayable pixels, and picture quality that even in the "reject" state can trump most >$200 monitors; you're easily finding yourself something worth using.

The easiest way to put it, is someone going from an old 1990's beater car, to a relatively new & inexpensive sadan like the Nissan Versa. Sure it's a good car, but there are brands making luxury sadans which are just better in all regards.

They'll also cost you a few grand more. So you just need to make an educated decision on how much money you can feasibly spend.

The HD7950 is another good example. It's an excellent GPU with some stellar value; but if you can the cash to pick up a GTX 680, why wouldn't you?

The only difference between monitors & GPU's are (which is why cars work better) is that these monitors will last you more than 3 years. Like wise, in 3 years, we're most likely not going to have affordable 4k displays. They'll be in that $2-3k price range.

Dear Rodd,

I've been stalking this area of OCN for over 3 weeks. I've come to the same conclusion that Tator is telling you. I'll be picking up a Dell U2713HM as my next monitor, and I'll be waiting an extra month or two to pull it off

I've even ditched the idea of getting 120hz! I was huge on that for awhile.

The Korean monitors may not be calibrated out of the box but if you get a hardware calibration tool (or just get an ICC profile from someone else who has the same monitor) then the colors and gamma are fine.

The problem is its somewhat of a gamble. The panel lottery. If you lose the lottery with dell you can just ask for a new one. With the Korean ones that's not always the case. But most of the people who get the Korean ones seem satisfied if you read the threads here.

I gambled and it paid off. My crossover has no bad pixels, barely any backlight bleed, and great uniformity. Of course I am missing the little extras like more than one input, a good stand ( the stand on my 27qd is so bad I'm gonna have to get a 3rd party vesa mount one at some point), USB hub, etc.

Here in canada the dell would run me $750+ after all taxes and fees. The crossover was under $400 all in. The dell was just out of my budget for a monitor.

Where do you suggest picking up the U2713H? I wouldn't mind dropping $650 if it is well worth it. I just didn't see it for that price yet.

I found it here on BH Photo for $649.99 and free shipping. Think I will just hop on that unless the warranty is somehow different than direct from Dell, which in that case I am sure I could try to get them to price match. Would love to get them to price match their AU site at $550.

I suggest spending more on the Viewsonic VP2770 from Amazon (free shipping+easy return) since it has lower input lag, adjustable overdrive and the U2713HM has semi-glossy coating cross hatching issues. See my sign below for a thread with review links.

Won't be any different from B&H, the monitor will still have a support tag on it / serial #.
Seems to be the best price around too; Amazon usually has good sales from time to time, but not now unfortunately.

That's another $100 and getting close to the H model from Dell.

When spending 650$+tax what is another 100$+tax for a better display without any crucial issues? The U2713H is neither good for watching movies or playing games unless the user doesn't care about having natural+accurate colors. It ghosts during movies and has high input lag. The Game mode has lower input lag but the color settings can't be changed and the game mode uses the displays native gamut=over saturated an inaccurate colors for games. I'm in the process of reviewing one now.

There is some interesting information buried in the following article regarding sRGB. I was curious regarding several real world practices and information.
http://opencolorio.org/configurations/spi_vfx.html

Also, I found this review for the Dell U2713HM.
http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2713hm.htm

And here is their review of the Viewsonic VP 2770-LED.
http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/viewsonic_vp2770-led.htm

And for reference the Dell U2312HM review which did quite well.
