My HAF X Water Cooling Adventure - Build Thread! - Page 4

people tend to under tighten water blocks because they are afraid of damaging the processor. its very possible that you under tightened the block, tighten it to your comfort zone, then give each bolt another good half turn. its kinda difficult to ruin the processor by over tightening the block. you would have to be extremely excessive... thumb.gif

also, i guarantee you used too much thermal compound. unmount the block, and use literally, a grain of RICE size of thermal compound. less is truly more with thermal compound... i like to put the thermal compound on the processor then put a rubber glove on or my finger in a plastic bag and spread the compound around evenly with my finger.

Alright. Thanks. I will try to tighten it down first, and then remount it later if need be.

Update. So, I've now switched out the 680 with a ASUS 7970 DCII Top and EK waterblock. I also got some new ram heatsinks and got a new side window from FrozenCPU which looks amazing! I am very happy with it! biggrin.gif

I also added a couple of cold cathode UV lights, but you can't see them in that picture. New pics in OP.

I got this windowed panel: http://www.frozencpu.com/products/16741/win-186/Cooler_Master_HAF-X_Side_Panel_w_Custom_Bolt-On_Window_1875_x_18.html

You can just get the window and do the mod yourself too. The UV lights are Logisys cold cathodes I also got from FrozenCPU They do a fairly good job of lighting up my uv tubing and have very very little purple haze.
