[RPS] Destiny Not Coming To PC, Bungie Deny Reality[Update]

Two idiotic statements from the co-founder of Bungie today (which I believe deserve a whole thread in of themselves considering this is becoming a standard plague across the industry), starting with this one:
Quote:
Halo creators Bungie have announced the platforms for their next game, online shooter Destiny, and PC is not amongst them. With 360 and PS3 versions certain, and next-gen consoles hinted at, it would seem to make a certain degree of sense to release the game on the format most suited to online FPS. But no, because according to Bungie, of mouse and keyboard players, “Nobody plays shooters the way they used to… ’cause nobody wants to.”

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/02/17/destiny-not-coming-to-pc-bungie-deny-reality/

and followed up by this one:
Quote:
“[Players] don’t want to work hard, they don’t want to read, and they don’t’ want to go to the Internet to figure out our *bleep*.”

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/02/17/bungies-destiny-a-land-of-hope-and-dreams?page=2

Take it as you will, but this doesn't sound like a game I want anywhere near me, specially when the developers are implying their customers are lazy, stupid and that those with PC as their platform are out of date.

I don't believe Bungie have formally announced anything yet...

Quote:
But will it be on PC? “We need to make sure that we’re prepared for the future. Both prepared for upcoming generations, certainly upcoming other platforms. Multiple platforms,” said Bungie COO Pete Parsons at the reveal event. “The thing we’re focused on is creating that living universe, that place that you want to be on, and not have it be dependent on any specific platform or device.”

Activision CEO-bot Eric Hirshberg added this. “Until anything’s officially announced, from the first parties, obviously we can’t comment on any platforms that might be forthcoming. But what we can say is that we’re building Destiny to be wherever gamers are. And we want this to be one of the great video game franchises and entertainment franchise for the next decade.”

YES, BUT WILL IT BE ON PC? “I’d say we would absolutely love to be on PC,” Parsons said. “If you go upstairs and talk to the people upstairs, we play on all platforms. So stay tuned.”

 Also...
Quote:
It’s been reported that Bungie slammed the PC during the reveal on Sunday, but that’s not really the case. Bungie co-founder Jason Jones was bigging up Halo’s influence on the modern shooter, albeit in a rather cocksure manner.

Of course we can always expect certain sites, and site users, to blow things way out of proportion in sensational fashoin... rolleyes.gif

I remember when I loved Bungie, back before the Halo series. I played their Myth series for hundreds of hours online. They were an amazing company back then, with amazing ideas, and pretty much focused on PC games.

What happened... mad.gif

The second quote I'd actually agree with to be honest. Rather often people don't care about story or such, they want gratification for killing things and that's it. A fine example is WoW, in order to appeal to the masses they reduced difficulty, integrated a guide for all the boss fights and other things along those lines. Just remember, people on this and similar PC enthusiast sites are a minority in the scheme of things and if a studio doesn't think that their game would work on PC, then that's there choice. Just like it's our choice to stick to the "PC master race" rather than play on a console.

That's just my opinion though and I'm sure I'll get all kinda of flames biggrin.gif

I don't disagree with your first point, but some of us want more than just mind-dumbing titles filled with explosions every half second and low-skill multiplayer.

Actually, it IS true.. I have to admit that true "gamers", whatever that means nowdays, that like deep stories, complex gameplay and all in all a challenge, is a race in extinction..
To satisfy an above mentioned player the developer has to sacrifice a lot of resources to make it happen.. Developers, studios and publishers do whatever they do for money [passion itself won't feed you]..

Creativity, which is the decisive factor on a good game is lacking nowdays; it exists, but it is either too expensive or too hard to find..

Not flaming you, just giving my 2cent. smile.gif

WoW offers harder difficulties (with greater rewards) for the players that enjoy them, and that's the difference here. You can either do LFR, which is an absolute joke for people who want it easy.. Get a guild and do normals, which requires coordination and communication... or get a good guild and do heroics, which requires everyone doing their job and lots of patience. He's pretty much saying all gamers don't like a challenge. If that's true, why was Dark Souls so popular? The game isn't even that good in my eyes, but I still put 100s of hours into it just because of the difficulty.

I think The Witcher 2 had an amazing system that catered to both casual and hardcore gamers. On higher difficulties, you could get gear that was more powerful. These types of systems are great for hardcore gamers that like a challenge... and make those higher difficulties so much more rewarding. It a system that many MMOs are adopting, but i'd like to see it in single player games too. I believe TW2 was the first ever non-MMO to do this type of thing?

I definitely agree most gamers do not like a challenge, but saying that all gamers don't? That's a bold statement on his part. tongue.gif

Nice excuse. The lazy ones though, are those at Bungie.

Was interested in the idea of the game, now I will simply hope it fails so much, it causes them millions in loss. Dev's that turn their backs on what made them popular/successful, deserve to die off.
