[RPS] Destiny Not Coming To PC, Bungie Deny Reality[Update] - Page 4

I was for sure this title would be on pc when I first heard about it last year, It was never even a question.

Then I read this I and think Bungie is still the same team who were Microsoft slaves who have not evolved. They are still console minded and if so then be it. I'm sure they may have a nice project on their hands but think how great it would be on pc,it would be limitless in terms of replay value. Oh well pc gamers, it's our loss right? Consoles +1, PC's 0. How much more time and effort goes into porting and game that you build on pc... to pc? Or is this title even worth the effort?

With a publisher like Activision who was really surprised? The devil is at the reigns on this one: MONEY MONEY MONEY.

i don't think it's really true (that hardcore gamers are going extinct). rather, the market has grown so much and added more casual gamers. so we end up with games aimed at larger, overall more casual group. doesn't mean the smaller group is dwindling

I think the industry needs to crash again. Plain and simple, wipe the slate clean.

I don't get this attitude of just because someone plays with a controller all of a sudden they can't be a serious fps player. Just because I enjoy using a controller vs a keyboard does not change the type of gamer I am, all it does is change what I use.

I also don't understand all this console hate, and developer hate. Just because they are not developing for pc everyone chooses to bash them. I am looking forward to this game and if it is even close to as expansive as the Halo universe I think the game will be great. Halo on first glance does not have a massive story, but if you take the time and actually delve into the universe it is quite big and I have no doubt this next game will be any different. On the surface it will cater to the casual, but deep down it will have a rich story for those who want to look for it.

I don't think anyone is saying you cant be a serious fps player with a controller. Just that it is not as well suited to that particular genre, as a mouse and keyboard. At least not without automatic aim assist.

The original Halo was totally awesome. 2 and 3 were just terrible IMO. Reach was OK. Bungie have an inconsistent history. So I wouldn't be so certain that a game from them will be good, purely based on a couple of concept images.

i agree with both quotes and i don't blame them at all for skipping the pc. as much as people honestly think pc is the best, the pc has a very major problem: you have to spend a lot of money constantly if you want to play the lastest and greatest releases on those max settings. developers need to rely on people willing to constantly upgrade their pcs to to sell those games. on consoles, at least you have safety knowing that the console wont be upgraded to the next generation for a good 4-5 years. very large pool of people to sell to from there.

the part about lazy people are now... hes right, no one wants to read the quests or even the lore anymore.

the times have changed from the 90s when it was mainly us nerds who gamed online and we got into the quests and lore big time. didn't need all those indicators telling us where to go on the minimap because we actually read and used our heads. now its "oh comon dude your holding up the group, just hit accept, i already saw this part on youtube or wikipedia, i know what we have to do next." instant gratification is all today's newer generation of players want, those who came to online gaming during the mid 2000s when wow was just released. they are just adapting to the times so their business survives, and they are doing it right.

I read this yesterday and their take on the MMOFPS genre isn't surprising considering Bungie had a hand in crafting the FPS genre on consoles with Halo CE, who many regard as the best example of shooters on consoles that really paved the way for those PC gamers who wouldn't think of ever playing a shooter with a pad.

The original Xbox's built-in networking features and relatively small size, made it a staple for LAN party gaming. I think if you are denouncing Bungie for not targeting PC, then you are missing the point somewhat. In this case, it's Halo CE all over again. Only instead of an off-line FPS carving out a new niche on a new platform, its an MMO carving out a niche on a relatively new platform for that specific genre.

Because a particular game has small hints of auto-aim doesn't mean it isn't "well suited" for the genre. If that's the case, then PC shooters have a much higher assistance threshold with input lags near 0ms, ultra-polling keyboards and all of these other tricks that can lower response timings including dedicated networking hardware and servers.

I completely reject the idea that there is some perceived higher skill when you simply have more tools available to you. Its a DSLR vs. point & shoot argument.

That's simply your opinion. Comparing scores from Metacritic and Gamerankings, Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, and Reach all have >90% aggregate review, so they are by no means inconsistent.

Seriously Bungie? Like using an Xbox360 controller on a PC isnt an option?

Anyway let's pretend like you don't already have mouse/keyboard support since all your development is being done on PC. How long would it take to implement basic keyboard/mouse support? Like there isn't a dozen pre-fabbed librarys/classes already for this sort of thing but anyway- my guess is: 1 day for a decent programmer to implement and test it. Sure there's a few other tweaks that would be nice for PC, like some graphics options, but given the state of other PC ports it's not unprecedented to hardcode the resolution and framerate.

Just be honest- You sold out. You probably sold out for a buttload of cash from both MS and Sony. I can respect that. In your place I would do it. But don't LIE to us.

Wait, so this article says they aren't working on a PC version, yet the article on PCGamer says they might be?

http://www.pcgamer.com/2013/02/18/destiny/

Sounds like this thread's source just wants attention and are purposefully taking things out of context.
