the part about lazy people are now... hes right, no one wants to read the quests or even the lore anymore.

the times have changed from the 90s when it was mainly us nerds who gamed online and we got into the quests and lore big time. didn't need all those indicators telling us where to go on the minimap because we actually read and used our heads. now its "oh comon dude your holding up the group, just hit accept, i already saw this part on youtube or wikipedia, i know what we have to do next." instant gratification is all today's newer generation of players want, those who came to online gaming during the mid 2000s when wow was just released. they are just adapting to the times so their business survives, and they are doing it right.

I am right there with you. I can understand from a development standpoint skipping the PC for now and working with a standard set of hardware. I also understand from a business perspective trying to gain some more traction in what is arguably the most visible gaming market. Developers enjoy making games but at the end of the day it is a business, they go where the money is so they can continue making the games they want.

I can also agree with the second quote. A lot of gamers now (even the hardcore ones) will RAGE if you watch a cinematic you haven't seen before and are "holding up the group". There are also the ones that don't care at all about "who, what, when, where and why" and only want to play the game. We live in a world of instant gratification and hand holding to the point that if critical thinking isn't absolutely necessary people don't want to have to do it (movies being a prime example).

I said it wasn't AS well suited. I didn't claim that controllers were completely ill suited for fps games. Please don't twist my words.

Edit:- Had to reread the second part a few times to figure out what you were trying to say. It is so ridiculous, that I really cant be bothered formulating a response to it.

I completely reject the idea that there is some perceived higher skill when you simply have more tools available to you. Its a DSLR vs. point & shoot argument.
That's simply your opinion. Comparing scores from Metacritic and Gamerankings, Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, and Reach all have >90% aggregate review, so they are by no means inconsistent.

Oh yeah, I remember when EDGE gave Halo 3 a perfect 10. lol I say, lol.

You mean in the same manner their co-founder was blowing up his own statement?

Its one thing to say less people play FPS on PC compared to consoles (mainly thanks to CoD, *cough* *cough*), than to say no one plays FPS games with a keyboard & mouse anymore (specially when you consider the PC user-base has never stalled in growth).

Except he didn't say that.

His statement followed a long list of things that Halo changed and now you can't not have because the market expects it. Read the actual quote from him, not the editorial alterations that your OP quoted.

This is just another case of mis-quotes and shock journalism that all the self entitled millennial gamers have eaten up and nerd raged all over the Internet.

Seriously, use a little bit of critical thinking here.

He never said that no one played FPS with a mouse and keyboard anymore, neither did he even say anything about player populations regarding platforms and game genres, not once, not at all. I don't know where you or anyone else gets that from the following statement.

Quote:
“We did a bunch of ambitious things on Halo deliberately to reach out to people. We limited players to two weapons, we gave them recharging health, we automatically saved and restored the game – almost heretical things to first-person shooters at the time. We made the game run without a mouse and keyboard. And now nobody plays shooters the way they used to play them before Halo ’cause nobody wants to.”

He was referencing more how Halo had changed the mindset of the current gamer towards FPS mechanics in general. The statement about the keyboard and mouse was about how it was the first shooter that made the Halo style controls with a control pad a staple.

So yes. You can blame the media for totally blowing this statement way out of proportion with sensationalist propaganda.

You will also find an article that I linked earlier that shows straight up that Bungie have not dismissed the idea of a PC version either. Not once, not at all. Read it.
