Well, at least there is a plan in place to determine the ranking for this month. I'd hate to think that it would be a total wash.

You know, given that the forum staff cares so little about the TC, it's no wonder that we can't get consistent participation. I mean hell, this is a simple principle of leadership: Make it clear that you value something, and those who look to you will value it, as well. But when OCN can't get a simple stats tracking site working properly - and I know the current sites are all run by volunteers who share no part in the negligence of the staff - the members become disillusioned. Those who care about the TC simply stop, and nobody new moves in to replace the losses because the consensus is that it's just not important.

TC should be the elite in truth, not just by declaration. We should have oodles of potential TC folders itching to prove themselves worthy enough for a chance to participate. Instead we have to beg with random PMs like telemarketers selling vacuum cleaners on cold calls. It's almost a joke, but TC still means something to some of us.

Here's the solution for the administrators: Spend some money. Pay a person or a company to set up a proper site and make sure you have enough control of it to keep it up to date. Host it yourself if you can. In any case, show that you care about the TC and want nothing but the most dedicated of folders to be a part of it. Then the TC will be relevant again.

and I'll add that $275 in prizes is kind of pathetic IMO when OCN can raffle 12 rigs throughout the year to giveaway to anyone, even if they haven't contributed to the community...

I'll be sure to add a couple of zero's to the end of my points....tongue.gif

Well, the $275 a month doesn't really bother me so much as I do what I do not for money but for helping to find a cure. But having said that, it wouldn't hurt my feelings if the prizes were upped a bit, especially considering the added cost in electricity every month that 41 TC/Cormageddon rigs would consume to help not only "the cause", but to keep OCN in the #3 spot in the world as far as FAH goes.

At the very least, I do wish that OCN would fork over some cash to at least keep the TC Stats working ... be it a server or hiring a programmer.

But let's face it, given what transpired in the past on OCN with FAH, I seriously doubt that OCN is going to do much for us, even if many of us weren't even around when "the incident" happened and certainly had nothing to do with it. Heck, we can't even have our own TeamSpeak channel left unlocked.

*most do it for the cure* but keeping and maintaining folders who do it for the points/competition requires incentives... I think between us and BOINC, we give back more to this community then any other section, but yet OCN is giving 12 rigs away to people who just have to be members after a certain date.

Extra prize money for Coremageddon is in the works. First we are working as a team to figure out what other contests should be revived.

As for TC stats server, this is a beast of an issue that I am working on. Slowly making progress, keyword slowly though.

I'm all about F@H, anyone who knows me here on OCN knows this (and everyone in my not-online-life knows it too), but the cost is really a killer. I currently have all of my rigs except my TC rig shut down because of electricity costs. I’m hoping this is temporary, but when I did the figures, F@H was accounting for more than ½ of my electric bill each month (37% of the bill was just from folding on my SigRig 24/7) and my electric bill has gotten so high as to make it a significant strain on my wallet (currently it is the highest single bill I have besides my mortgage, it passed up my car payment last month).

No real point to this post, except to back up what you are saying, however, most of the prizes I’ve won from OCN for folding I’ve donated back to the next month’s competition, so I don’t really care about the prizes, but I see what you are saying, some people do and any incentive to get people folding is good thing.

I'm in the same boat as WonderMutt. I actually had to stop folding altogether for a month to get my winter electric down. My bills were way over $200 a month. Right now I am back to folding on my GPU only. My X6, X4, and GTS450 are sitting idle. I have been a folder with OCN since my joining of the forums in 2009. When all I had was a ATI HD2600 256MB GPU and a Celeron E1200 dual core processor. I was lucky to pull 18k a month then.

As for the TC Site, I definately feel that something has to be done. The support we get for the TC is abysmal. (Support in the upkeep and management of the stats etc.) Prizes are nice and all but I personally would like to see a month or two of the prize monies go towards the actual creation/upkeep of a site that would keep track of our stats. More if necessary. Its a Competition. How do you expect to keep people in the TC is they can't even get the slightest information on their standings with others in their category or even the standing of their team in their division?

Please. As a long time member of the Folding Community, Team Competition, and of OCN fix the problem.

Agreed! In fact, besides the GTX470 I won (which happened to be the matching one to one I had bought off elchucko the month before) I’ve donated almost every prize I’ve won from folding back to the site (or to the prize pool for the next month). I don’t fold for prizes, I fold for the cause, but I love the TC because it has encouraged competition and has encouraged other folders and myself to push what we can do. Without the stats we don’t have this competition, we don’t have people doing everything they can for every last point, and that is really hurting the numbers that OCN should be putting up.

Honestly, is there anything we, the team captains, can do to help this situation? I mean, I would be willing to help in almost any way I could to get this back up and running so we can have an honest competition again. Seriously, if we could talk to our teams and all agree that we put the prizes on hold for 2 or 3 months so the funds can be put toward development of a better TC stats site, I would be all for that, and I’m sure I could get the blessing of my team, as I’m sure the other TC captains could as well.

If this was a viable option, I would be more than happy to talk to the Rangers and most likely they would agree to it as well.

I think along side the previous comments, stopping monthly prizes shouldn't be our primary course of action in order to keep the stats running though. As stated at least three times, the twelve rigs being donated to a random one post "member" that can cost up to $2,500? I feel as though there is most certainly going to be an un-tapped amount of cash flow that can be slided our way for our stats site... But, all I am doing is repeating what has already been said. rolleyes.gif

I guess to make it productive, is this just an issue that we (the captains as a whole) should be bringing up to our editors, or is this an issue that we, the captains, should be aiming towards someone like Frickfrock or such?
