Upgrading 6850 xFire question

Thread Starter
Hey Guys

I'm looking to upgrade my current 6850 xfire setup. I was wondering will a 7950 be worth it or should I aim to get a 7970 Ghz edition (personally I think its actually hard to find a card that's not Ghz edition) please advise smile.gif

Cheers

Actually it depend on your budget. But in my opinion ,if you can afford it then go with the hd 7970Ghz.

Hey man

Well, your current setup is quite good already to be honest, now your 6850 in xfire is actually around the same as single 7950 with boost

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/645?vs=539

Just double up the 6850 scores...

The benefit of this would be a better upgrade path (another 7950) as well as less power consumption, cooler case and no micro stutters biggrin.gif

Hope that helps

OP the HD 7950 boost is a significant upgrade from HD 6850 CF.

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/HIS/HD_7950_X2_Boost/28.html

1920 x 1200

HD 6850 - 46
HD 6870 - 55
HD 6950 - 63
HD 7950 iceq x2 boost - 100
HD 7970 Ghz - 115

CF scaling in best cases is 1.8x. but on average across many games its 1.6x. at stock speeds HD 7950 boost would match HD 6950 CF. HD 7970 is 3 - 6% faster at the same clocks than HD 7950. HD 7950 at 1100 mhz would match HD 7970 Ghz.
