Looking for a new gaming system. £800 to spend - Page 4

The gloves are off!

Anyway, I've narrowed it down to 4.

Asus P8Z77-V
Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H
Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H
ASRock Z77 Extreme4

I just don't know which one can get me to mid 4GHz.
Price is not an issue here, just want the better board.

I have the mATX version of the D3H and it's a solid board. Never OC'd though, I've heard good things about the D3H and UD3H, as well as the Asus. My brand preference is to Gigabyte, though, so I chose them.

The Z77X-D3H is cheaper and a much better board.

What amazing features does it have that comparably priced boards from other makers don't have? Are these features worth the fact it's VRM's are subpar and it gives incorrect voltage readings? I suggest you go read up on the board here is an entire thread on the dodgy readings http://www.overclock.net/t/1360404/asrock-z77-extreme-4-vcore-reading/0_50 and you can easily google the lousy VRM's/mofsets though if you are unaware of those at this point in time I would question your ability to reccommend anything.

Of course maybe you value 2 extra SATA 6GB/s ports over reliability and quality in which case yeah the extreme 4 is the board for you.

BTW, why is there 2 threads for the same build?

Well, i will say that any of those boards will oc perfectly fine, especially with air you would see no difference. But as UD3H owner i will recommend it to you, as it has very beefy VRM design which is a very desirable thing when overclocking. It is simple and has everything that 90% of people need from their board and that's one of the reasons why i keep showing it in everywhere when peeps ask for a good Z77 board.

D3H is essentially the same, and i'd advice to get that if you don't need the OC touch buttons & whatnot.

Any of them will get you to mid 4Ghz. The thing that's most likely to limit you in this build is the ivy CPU, they tend to run quite hot, but I still expect you'll get to mid 4GHz with reasonable temps.

Honestly most of the very top-end boards with tons of VRM phases are only relevant for extreme (ie. LN2) overclocks, the mid-range type of boards you are looking at all have perfectly adequate power design for getting to normal 24/7 overclocks.
