Even with 120hz I would much rather use IPS/PLS panels at 2560 resolution or go for a triple monitor resolution.

Using a trash monitor with a halo GPU makes absolutely zero sense. Why anyone would spend 150$ on a monitor and 2000$ on a sli setup is laughable.

I... I actually agree with you.

CPU bottlenecking at 1080p (tiny resolution nowadays for top-end gaming). Architectural differences (bandwidth especially per SMX). Etc....

Heck, if you insist on TN at least get surround. I am just in disbelief at the number of people who think they're doing themselves a favor with a 1080p 21 inch monitor oh but hey! 1500$ worth of graphics power. Ugh.

Yes because all 1080p monitors are $200 TN panels.

I'm using a 55" HX929 TV which cost $3000, and i've compared it side by side to a Dell 2713H and a Samsung 970D (some of the best 1440p monitors on the market). The only thing they have on it is sheer resolution, the TV destroys it in black levels, contrast, colors, everything else. Everyone i've had come over to help compare favored the HX929. To each his own... I'm not impressed with any of the 1440p IPS/PLS panels i've messed with. We'll see if that changes when Dell releases the U3014.

This.

I like how so many people have already concluded that Titan is only 30% better than a gtx 680, that it is a complete failure, and that Nvidia is screwing people by making the Titan $800+ instead of $500. And there isn't a single actual benchmark yet by any credible source. There isn't even a "leaked" graph of any performance numbers at a decent resolution that wouldn't be cpu bottlenecked.

Too true.

My CPU isn't even close to being bottlenecked by two 7970's. I highly doubt a single Titan is going to magically max out my CPU. There should definitely be a large difference between Titan and a 7970 at 1080p. At any rate we will find out when the reviews release because they usually use a 3930K or 3960X for their test beds...

I ask you the same question: Are you for real?

The underlying technology with most 1080p monitors is the same, you can pay for extra stuff like 120hz and 3d vision, but the underlying TN panel technology is still bad - you still need to deal with 6 bit color, horrible viewing angles and incredible bad color accuracy. Nothing can change this aspect of TN panels, nothing.

Now perhaps you're referring to a 1080p IPS panel, i'm not sure. In any case, I still find it completely ridiculous to spend 1000$+ on a GPU and saddle it with a lowest common denominator resolution from 2007.

The monitor is about 75% of your experience IMO. How you visualize everything you do on your PC is completely dependent on the monitor setup, if that part of the equation is bad why bother with such expensive GPUs? Wouldn't high end monitor(s) make more sense? The first time I gamed at 2560x1600 I was in awe because it really is quite immersive (the size of 30 inchers are really immense, in a good way), I really have a tough time using 1080p these days.

This bit I disagree with. 1080p isn't even mainstream yet in 2013. People with 1440p+ resolutions are in the vast minority of computer users. And besides, you don't have to spend $1k on a monitor to get a good one. My two cost me only $400 and they look amazing.

Also, a lot of us that are interested in Titan are benchers looking to get the highest scores possible. I don't really care what 3dmark11 looks like (I've seen it a million times). I just want 25k Performance score!!! biggrin.gif

I got lucky and bought a 42LK450 for $190. It's a 1080p 42" S-IPS HDTV with very little input lag, multiple inputs and has great image quality. I could purchase a 2560x1440 monitor but I'd rather have a big screen in front of me that looks good than to downgrade 12+ inches but have a higher resolution. With that said, I don't want to bother with SLI and I love maxing out each game I own and 1 680/7970 isn't cutting it for me. thumb.gif
