I would also prefer to see the height of the S5 kept the same. The closer it gets to the SM5 height the less appealing it is for me. I was hoping horizontal board oriententation would mean shorter and wider than a case with vertical board placement. Width and depth should grow just enough for MB fit and clearance of items in the front bays. I do like cases with an extra pci slot or 2 for accessory switches or other i/o duties but that would not be preferred if it made the case too much wider. I like that the S3 has 3 slots although the cases I like the best stick the extra slot in another unused location which often allows them to maintain smaller dimensions while still offering the extra slot. I think I read earlier that the 3rd S3 slot was mainly there for monster graphics cards but is obviously handy for other things.
I built a mini itx build recently with a graphics card occupying the only PCIe slot on the board. It was a 2 slot graphics card and the case I was using had 2 slot cutouts. I also wanted to add a 2 port mini PCIe NIC (Jetway) which came with cables and a 2 ethernet port PCI slot cover. The case had space for an extra pci slot in a number of locations on the back of the case but did not have the extra cut out I needed so I had to break out the tools. So that 3rd slot is nice to have available.
The S3 is going to make a great mini itx server case or a great gaming case with massive cooling possibilities but if I want a little of both in the same machine I need mATX so I am eager to see the S5.
I am however interested in buying an S3 pedestal with a top to use for an external drive testing set up. Will the pedestal be available at the same time as the case? I will just have to cut some Centronics slots in one of the PSU blanking plates to mount some bridge boards since I saw no PCI slot or Centronics options.
