Looking to upgrade but don't know where to begin :( - Page 2

Get a new GPU if you want to upgrade. Maybe upgrade to 8GB of RAM as well. You can get a 7950 and new RAM for 400 easy.

Or a 7850/70, RAM, and a SSD. The Crucial ones suggested earlier in this thread are a good deal. 400 is a lot to play with and you have plenty of options.

This is possible, check your temperatures while gaming with EVGA Precision or MSI Afterburner

2) I'm sitting here wondering if 1gb vram might be too low for 1920x1080
The 470 has 1.2GB of RAM, and that should be enough at the resolution for the games you play. I ran a 470 at that res, and the only game I ran into trouble on with VRAM was BF3.
3) 4GB ram might be the culprit, though only you could check that
4GB RAM could be an issues depending on what you have running the the background. Also, are you running 64-bit windows or 32-bit? 32 bit can only use 3.2GB or RAM, so that could be a problem if you have a lot of backround programs. 4GB or RAM should be fine though if all you are running are the games
3) Lastly I'm thinking that your 6 core Phenom 2 isn't really satisfactory anymore although I find that a little hard to believe.

This processor should be fine. It's not the fastest out there, but it is not the cause of your problems. You should hold off on upgrading your CPU for a while still.

If those aren't it then sorry I'm couldn't help.
