From what I've seen the DarkGlider seems to be pretty good if you're into the 9500 sensor.

An OEM shell, likely to be overpriced, likely to have poor quality and poor implementation of the ADNS-9500 ... (without considering the sensor issue)

The G400 is a well known ergonomic, flawless tracking, fairly robust, mouse that has AMAZING support.

I think there's no contest here (despite that shameful, uninformed, non-reliable reviews released by some people)

If you believe Feenix, the story with the Darkglider is that a contract gave their supplier the option to sell the shell to other companies as well, or something like that. Weird story with that mouse. I have heard it has poor build quality, likely that reviewers get cherrypicked samples.

I saw that shell long before the release of the Feenix Nascitas or the Sharkoon Darkglider. In fact the once famous and expected Puretrack Valor also uses that shell...

As for the pad, cloth, plain black is what I always suggest.

Still in the market for a pad (eventually bought the g400). The Razer sphex seems good to me or maybe the steel series 4hd too. I've been told that hard mats are better... Any other opinions on this?

Good choice.

If you're deciding between those TWO, i'd recommend the 4HD simply because it doesn't adhere to your desk. I've owned the Sphex and it's not very durable and eventually quits sticking (also leaves a residue.)

I also own the 4HD and it has a larger grain than the Sphex.

Hard pads aren't "better" by any means, just different. Typically, they have more glide and less resistance than a cloth, personal preference.

The logitech mX works even on clear glass, so you only need one if the desk isnt slick enough to allow for a comfortable smoothness. I like my mouse to glide, and not stick. lol

I don't know what I want but definitely a smooth glide. I understand your point about the sphex but I don't think I'd be removing it often...
