EVGA 680i and 6600 limits

Thread Starter
my 680i and 6600 can overclock to 3.6 however when i run orthos immediately upon running i get an error, small ftt test or whatever its called as im not currently on that pc. i cannot get it stable at this speed with 1.5vcore. my ram is a bit under 800 just to rule that one out. im just wondering if my processor is one that is just not able to work at this speed or if 500W PSU supply might be problem or what could be the hinderance. im seriously considering switching to a 6400 as it seems that they overclock better. should i instead sell mobo for the new asus 680i non striker model. i have found that this mobo has some fsb holes. any help would be greatly appreciated

Get water cooling.

3.5GHz is about the limit for a Core 2 Duo on air. 3.6 with luck. The E6400 would probably not get you that high. Eevn an E6700 would top out here.. This is an excellent overclock!!
