Best Software to compress video files for mobile usage

Thread Starter
I am in the process of converting my DVD and BD collection to digital for home use and less clutter. i am also wanting to compress some of them for use on my tablet and my Note 2 phone. I am obviously trying to minimize file size so i can maximize storage and would like to maintain as much video quality as possible. I am willing to pay for software but would prefer to at least try it out with a trial version before use. Thanks in advance for you input and suggestions.

Most of the free/shareware is better than the paid stuff.
DVD fab is probably the best for decrypting your DVD/BD, to get them on your HD.

After that you can use something like , Ripbot264 to get them down to a descent size.

Just check what formats and max res. your tablets and phone support. ie mkv , avi 800 x 400 etc.

I use MakeMKV to get the data from disk to hard drive. Then Format Factory to convert to MP4

Handbrake

  • Relatively simple
  • Built in support for DVDs, including chapters/subtitles/multiple audio tracks
  • Has useful filters like inverse-telecine, Yadif based de-interlacing, adjustable denoise
  • The advanced tab is there if you really want to tune for the best quality/compatibility, but you can stick to presets if you want.

Handbrake is as old as hammers and just as reliable. biggrin.gif It's been around for so long and is so popular precisely because it works so well. It's another great option. thumb.gif
