Not particularly. Connector counts are up to the product management teams, who want you to climb the ladder and buy something with the so-called "moar wattz" and give them more profits. Also, they want people to baby the power supplies with like 30% max load so they might last slightly longer and past warranty, which is what a lot of people end up doing. More connectors and more wiring also costs more money to them.

Honestly, any half-decent 650W power supply should have four of those connectors, as they can all handle all sorts of decently-beefy Crossfire / SLI setups.

CM Silent Pro M 700W is an example of a fairly-decent power supply at 700W with only two of those connectors. Corsair GS700 is another one. If OCZ ModXStream Pro were better, the 700W might be another too. There are many more examples at 650W.

Some 550W power supplies have four.

It just depends.
