All AMD Display Drivers Refuse to Install!!!

Thread Starter
This all started when I was trying to upgrade from display driver from 12.11 beta to 13.1 a few days ago. Initially it kept on failing and I tried uninstalling and installing AMD stuff to try and get it to work. I then tried the 13.2 beta driver and didn't work. But yesterday I powered down my computer for the day and when I came home tonight, no display driver is now operating when b4, 12.11 was still working. AND 12.10, 12.11, 13.1, 13.2 all refuse to install. When I run the display software package, the amd display driver and the hdmi audio driver fail and everything else is a success. SO I'm stuck at a 600x800 resolution now.

Please help me! I have not run any driver cleaner software because I have read that they can mess up your system even more. I want to save reinstalling the OS as a last resort.

THANKS

Have you tried going to the Device Manager, Right-click on the Display Adapter, go to the Driver Tab and click Update Driver...

Select Browse My Computer for Driver Software, does it display your old driver in there for you to install?

It displays the version 9.10.8.0. It says it is not digitally signed and driver date is 11/5/12. The update software button on the device manager fails also. When I right click the desktop and go to the AMD control center, there is nothing about the display driver available.

When I try to browse for the driver I can't select it because from AMD's site it is a .exe file.

Hi,

I assume you have some sort of windows?

If you can get to a "run" option from start...
run cmd.exe

that starts a dos window.
From there cd to wherever the AMD download went.

I assume you unzipped the .zip file because you said you had a .exe file.
enter the (long) name of the exe file into the dos window and hit enter.

That should do it.

I hope.

Try the amd uninstall utility if you run windows 7:

http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/catalyst-uninstall-utility.aspx

Heard people with windows 8 have problems with it, but you shouldnt get problems with win 7.

I have a ASUS Sabertooth 990FX motherboard and Windows 7.

I ran the uninstall utility and then removed the entry of the display driver in the device manager by clicking uninstall.
Since I have an AMD chipset I assume the utility also uninstalled that. So I ran the chipset driver first , and everything installed except the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 redistributable and AMD AHCI compatible SATA RAID Driver. My OS is running on RAID 0 now. The chipset folder is called AMD_Chipset_V885308200_250_290_XPVistaWin7, so I think I ran the right thing. I rebooted, and then tried running the catalyst again and the same two failed to install.

The chipset driver was downloaded from ASUS's site for my motherboard. The display driver is included with the catalyst download from AMD's site. So it was not in a .zip file but a .exe file.

The utility only uninstalls catalyst related stuff and drivers and not chipset drivers. I have no other idea to get it working though.

Do not use Driver Sweeper, It completely wrecked my computer, It would Blue Screen before entering Windows every time.

Boot into safemode, and run System Restore, their should be a restore point before you uninstalled your drivers and at least make your computer functional again.

Yea, that is what I heard from other people too.

I'll try that when I get back home. But I don't think I have any System Restore points because either I disabled it, or they didn't work.
