Whats going to be troubling is that it's price will be higher then what is being said.

Remember the 680/7970 launch? The prices were astronomical due to the demand and short supply. Not only that the chip the Titan is going to be using is in even shorter supply. Anybody looking to buy that card will be looking at out of stock and price hikes (as retailers buy and hold products to drive prices).

As for the "your only mad because you can't afford it" response has merit, but remember that pricing should reflect what the product provides. It is 40% faster at nearly 100% more cost. It is a show off item, your turn off frame-rate monitors and you would be hard pressed to notice much of a difference between many cards out their. I think of it as the Bose of the video card world. Even the name reflects the marketing, Titan (does sound good though).

The Titan really exist just to jab AMD. Taking the single fastest GPU title for marketing reasons. They will probably post that up on their website. I see it happening. "Nvidea the makers of the single fastest GPU to date". It's going to be everywhere mark my words.

I don't dislike the Titan because it's ridiculousness, I dislike the Titan because it's underlying purpose isn't to give us an great card, but to make a Bling item and marketing. Just a distraction from the GTX 700s and poking AMD in the ribs.

It's just a waste.

So, if AMD further distances the two price points a lot of those people who are thinking "really isn't that much more" will start thinking "That is a lot more, I am getting the 7970."

The real key is for AMD to not drop the price so low that people start to think "Well the 680 cost so much more, it must be way better!".

Again, my statement on pricing had nothing to do with Titan.

i apologoze for the Titan comparison when you did not specify it, but again even at the current price points AMD beats nvidia at every tier.

there is no reason for AMD to lower their prices when they have the higher performing card at every price point.

In the words of AMD fans, 2 Titans will wipe the floor with the Ares 2.

If you're willing to shell out $1500 for one card, what's another $300 to beat that 1 card? If they're not concern, why the need for an Emergency call, the day before NDA lifts?

I hope AMD is forced to react with the 8000 series sooner rather than later.

1.- the asus ares 2 can and will be faster than 1 single Titan.. plain and simple

2.-those "extra" dollars of the ares 2 gives you the blocks/pumps tubing, radiator, 2 fans etc.. add that to the titan and the price rise up easily to the same point

oh and btw.. lets say that the titan its between 45-55% faster than then 7970ghz... at 1000$ !??!? not exactly a good deal; yes its a very nmcie step forward blah blah blah.. but dont get over excited by the HYPE, think with your brain, not something else

Read the Bit tech net link and see why they "called" that conference thumb.gif

You and I understand this, but a lot of people still are buying 670 and 680 products, that is what AMD wants to try and stop. They want to move those customers over to AMD customers, and the easiest way to do that is with really strong pricing. Which, I know, sounds odd considering right now a 7970 is substantially less than a 680, out performs it, and comes with Tomb Raider and Far Cry 3!! The 7970 is a smoking deal, but it needs to be on fire to sway those Nvidia customers.

Another ~10% price drop should do it...

Of course a single ARES is faster than 1 Titan...that is to be expected.

As for Titan performance? Nvidia actually broke their own NDA just a bit ago and posted some charts....

Reviews today have already said Titan and stock clock is 85% of a 690, and the 690 beats Titan in "most" cases. Toms hit 1.2Ghz on air, and Guru3d hit 1.17Ghz on air. Two Titans will beat an ARES, without the need for the rads and water cooling, just on air. Frankly, anyone that wants to throw down $1500 on a limited product 1 of 1000 ARES can easily chunk down another $500 and get two Titans.

Ares and TITAN are both just as pointless... These ultra high end cards are so redundant I don't even know why we're discussing them so much. Not to mention that Nvidia lovers like 2010rig use it as an excuse to bash on AMD... 800$ is like months expenses, I'd never drop that much on a card.

AMD is going to need to improve their drivers significantly. The sad part is most people don't get that they do, because they say "I never had any issues", well duh, AMD drivers suck not because of crashing, but because of frame stutter, which people have been claiming AMD cards are less smooth than nVidia's for years just no proof until now so all the benchmark non-gamers didn't care.

I use it as an excuse to bash AMD? I just responded to this....
Quote:
[journalist A]: "Yeah, just one last question on Titan, and a fairly pointed question. Do you concede that in a couple of weeks' time, you probably won't have the single fastest GPU in graphics?"

Roy: "How can we possible concede to what actually hasn't been delivered?"

[journalist A]: "Obviously, you know a fair bit of what's going on, do you believe that in a couple of weeks you'll still have the fastest single GPU? Let's flip the question around."

Darren: "I think what matters for end users, is the graphics card. And that's what ASUS' ARES II delivers. I see absolutely no threat to the ARES II's market position right now…"

They were asked point blank about having the fastest Single GPU, and they answered with the ARES II.

If AMD brought better competition to the table, NVIDIA could never get away with a $1000 Titan, the 580's TRUE replacement, ever thought of that?

If you think I'm such an NVIDIA fanboy, you may want to read this.

Quote:
Nothing would make me happier than for Titan to NOT sell out, so NVIDIA gets the message loud and clear that we're not willing to pay $900 for the fastest single GPU. When in the previous gen we paid $500 for it.

Will that happen? Nope, the initial 10,000 will likely sell out, and quick. NVIDIA will make more Titans to satisfy the demand if necessary. NVIDIA is now enjoying much higher profit margins then they had with the previous gen.

I just tell it how it is, and some people just can't handle it. I'm well aware of that.

Granted, I don't play very many new games, but the only issues with stuttering I've had were with Skyrim, which was mostly fixed with the 13.2 betas, and completely fixed with setting a max framerate in Radeon Pro. It'd be kinda nice to not have to do that, but it's not really much of an issue at all for me. As I said, I haven't played other 'trouble' games like FC3 or AC3, though, so I might be missing some problems there.

I can give you a handful of situations where a Titan, or two, is justified from a performance aspect.

  • 1440P 60Hz - Wanting to hold as close to 60 FPS as possible with newest of games.
  • 1440P 120Hz - Wanting to hold as close to 120 FPS as possible in the newest of games.
  • High resolution surround.
  • Folding
  • At home CAD and other rendering work.

From a financial aspect, that is completely personal. Just because you can't see dropping that kind of money doesn't mean some of us don't have an issue with it. Bringing finances into this, in the way you have, is never a good idea. As frankly; a $1000 for a video card for me isn't a huge deal and won't impact my financial situations, where as others it would wreck their finances. Others are in the same spot(s).

From a price to performance ratio, Titan is actually stacking up to be a bit of a bang for the buck, if you will, and here is why.

  • Early reviews are showing 40% overclock gains, which should put it ahead of, or just at, the level of a 690.
  • 690 levels of performance without the drawbacks of SLi.
  • Native pixel clock overclocking, prior to this you had to use 3rd party applications or hack the drivers to do this. This is huge for those of us at 1440P and 120Hz.
  • Low noise when compared to a 7970, 680, or 690.

These are just a few of the reasons Titan is shaping up to be a hell of a card.
