Titan on the other hand is a proper unlimited production run.

ARES 2 also will only beat Titan in single card setups, it can't be used in smaller builds, it has no chance of taking any world records in benchmarks.

Ares 2 is practically nonexistent, bulky and suffers from having 2 GPUs. It is in no way a competitor to a titan. I'd take a single titan over an ares 2 every day of the week.

Really? because everything we've been hearing is that its a limited production run.

@Alatar: Alright let's rephrase that. It's not a limited run card. It's a very low production volume one biggrin.gif

Nope, NV themselves denied that rumor, read the anandtech preview of Titan.

Apparently it's a proper production card much like the 690.

I don't think AMD should worry about it. I think they should focus on the 8000 series and give us a great product there with great drivers at launch. Maybe a good launch on a product they put a lot of time into will be a good jab back at Nvidia. Imaging an 8970 coming out and being just as good as the Titan but for half the price.

By the way I love my 7970 and think it was the best choice for me. I would love to see how many PPD the Titan gets in Folding though.... biggrin.gif

So, bottom line.....

AMD don't care/worry about the TITAN, because "Nvidia is leveraging from a completely different space. It's a Tesla product, it's a workstation product, it really was never intended for the consumer market, and I think they're kinda shoe-horning that product into their GeForce stack"
So, as far as they are concerned the 7970Ghz is doing well sales wise and performance wise. And they have no reason to respond to the TItan.
Meaning their 8XXX series will be aimed at Geforce 7XX series? So the 780 comes out and AMD respond with the 8970(or the other way). So then we're back to the 680 vs 7970 all over again.

Or am I missing something? tongue.gif

What is it with some of you guys thinking AMD sets the prices they do because they are all about price/performance and being nice to us, the consumer?????

The 7000 series are the current prices because Nvidia forced them to do it when they released the then-superior 600 series. If Nvidia hadn't done it, we'd still have $500 7970 and $400 7950 just like they were at launch.

If AMD launches the 8970 with equal performance to the Titan and it's priced at $500 then somebody at AMD should lose their job. I'm quite sure investors will see to that.

AMD is currently on damage control mode because they have no answer to Titan. So they are trying to downplay Titan as much as possible to save face.

Lots of 7970 owners here are looking for something new because they like new things and have money. Since AMD has nothing, Titan is their upgrade path. And not only does AMD lose the new product sale, the used 7970 hitting the market will hurt new 7970 sales as well.

We shall wait and see how many units are in the market, and, even better, how does the part actually perform.

AMD could well market PowerColor's HD7990 as their flagship, but they don't.

Isn't that where the price comes in? The "7970 owners looking for something new" don't necessarily have a 1000$ budget. (or am I underestimating the riches flowing in this forum tongue.gif).

So the sales AMD will be losing might not be all that significant. (significant enough for AMD to have to respond) (As long as the 8970 does better than the 780)
