Have you tried rearranging the boot priority list?
Hey dude, yeah ive tried, ive even tried numerous methods to disabl other drives by the various means, - the only way i can get it to boot into windows is by F8 and selecting either of my 2 ssd's

I cant get it to restart into windows from windows without going through the bios!, yet strangle it was ok, a few windows installs ago, yet nothing has changed in the way i have been installing windows - both ssd's are 040h

Thanks

If i remove the secondary ssd AND the vdv drive, it still goes to the post screen - only difference there is nothing else to boot from!

i flashed my bios from 1706 to 1805 to combat this and it didnt work, i sincerely hope i dont have to return them as i wont have another pc to work from(currently on my mums laptop which has to be returned soon)

Would reflashing my bios help d'ya think?

Thanks

It's been a while since I glanced at the boot options but have you tried to disable all the boot options except for CT064? Leave Boot Option #1 to CT064, disable Boot Option #2. Do the same thing with the hard drive bbs priorities. That way, your board will only look at the CT064.

Hi nether thanks, thats one of the first things i did, beside disconnecting everything.

I am going to reinstall everything once again, this time i will reflash my bios once my ssd's are formatted.

I even tried doing it in the bbs prt of the screen
Thanks

Oh ok, I just mentioned it because I was going by your screenshots. If you could post updated screenshots that will help a lot

I hope these come out ok, copying n pasting links when they paste inside each other is a pita to work out.

EDIT:
I meant to add, when all software was installed, all bios options were at default and NOT xmp enabled - if that makes a difference, - just i was informed that i should (by g.skill) set ram to xmp, but i thought that would have to be after the o/s

^ If that's your current setup, what I was suggesting is:

Under Boot Option Priorities:

- Set Boot Option #1 to CT064
- Disable Boot Option #2

---

- Disable everything CD/DVD ROM Drive BBS Priorities

---

Under Hard Drive BBS Priorities:

- Set Boot Option #1 to CT064
- Disable Boot Option #2

---

Save and Restart

---

If you already did the exact configuration above and it did not work...well that sucks lol.

Thanks for your help anyway dude.

So would reflashing my bios work? is this a bios issue, mobo issue or ssd's issue?
Wow that sucks. Are you reinstalling everything fresh again? Are both SSDs empty? No cloning or anything like that? The only thing that I can think of is if you are reinstalling everything, plug only 1 SSD while installing Windows. Once you are done and everything is setup, then add the second SSD and configure the Boot Options the way I previously posted.

Other than that nothing much that I could think of. Maybe others will have more solutions.

yh everything will be installed again, W7 only takes 10 mins if that, the updates maybe another 30, then after that its only fsx and a few addons, so in all not that much, although in due course i will have my camera software to go in, and the bairns photos.

I will try what you said and just have my 64gB ssd plugged in, and see how it goes.

I appreciate all your help dude - in the meantime, im going to fill in one of asus pathetic tech questionnaires and see what comes of it.

If its not an issue in the sense something could fail, it is just a case of going into bios then F8 and selecting my 64GB, but it gets a pain in the arse at times, and when one knows its not supposd to be like that its more annoying than anything else!

Much appreciated dude, thanks

Paul

^ I don't think that should be a problem at all.

#17 ·
ok thanks dude, i may try installing it wih xmp enabled then.

as well as what you suggested.
I have posted a tech enquiry form to asus seeing as asus forums is a POS but when i click submit after entering the security code, there is nothing telling me "the log has been submitted" or what not, - nice of them

Thanks again dude.

Hey dude, thanks for chipping in here,

Is it easy enough to revert back?

I had a STRANGE issue when updating one ssd to 040h(as my 64GB was already 040h) and it didnt update right away, it was AS IF the update stayed in my RAM(i know its impossible, but it updated when i didnt expect ot to, (after a few restarts later) when no disk OR usb(as i didnt have a usb at the time) in.

im not too technically minded but i do know its impossible for it to be stored in ram, i understand that much lmao.
Also, it doesnt matter which ssd(in boot priority (in F8) i choose, - both ssd's boot up to windows - even though windows was specifically set to install on my 64GB sd

Yes it is i tried every firmware, and when i saw that double access time i revert back.

When you say you can't get windows to boot. What does it say? No boot device found? What does the error message say?

When you boot windows from the 64GB SSD. Go to disk management. If you see a system reserve partition on any of the secondary drives delete it.

You shouldn't have an issue booting if you:
  1. Set the only boot option to the 64GB SSD. (Since that will be the OS drive.)
  2. Have all drives unplugged except the SSD and the DVD/CD drive.
  3. Follow my install guide: http://www.overclock.net/t/1156654/seans-windows-7-install-optimization-guide-for-ssds-hdds
  4. When you plug your other drive(s) in go to disk management. If you see a system reserve partition on any of the secondary drives delete it.

As for the firmware you can downgrade just as you upgrade it. Find the older firmware ISO, burn it to a disk, then reboot and boot the ISO and follow the instructions. The PC will reboot on its own when the firmware update is done.

Hi sean,
when i restart/turn on te pc, it goes straight to post screen, - - i have to F8 and click the 64B ssd for it to boot to windows, no matter what priorities are set at, i still ave to go to override(or) F8 and do it that way.

On disk 0( i have just disco'd my 2nd ssd, so i can reinstall windows(not done that yet, though) i have a system reserve of 100mb, but i only have the option to shrink it.(or change drive letter or path)
Just seen - the top section, - i can delete the system reserved there on my main ssd(64GB) should i delete that? (bearin in mind my secondary ssd is unplugged.

EDIT:

disk management.jpg 218k .jpg file
with 2nd ssd connected now

Thanks sean.

EDIT: also, is there anything(apart from default bios) i need to do to downgrade the firmware? sould i downgrade bot ssd's at te same time? i seen crucial saying that both get done at the same time, so should i disco one drive? and downgrade the o/s ssd? the o/s (64GB ) came with 040H on it already, CORRECTION - my 64 came with 010G, and the 256 came with 040H

found this : http://forum.crucial.com/t5/Solid-State-Drives-SSD/M4-firmware-0309-is-now-available/td-p/80286/page/27

You need to connect the SSD M4 drive to a NON-Marvell Controller, in other words, a SATA II controller, NOT SATA III. In addition, you may need to change your motherboard hard drive settings to "IDE" instead of AHCI (if available as a BIOS setting). If you have RAID enabled, you may need to 'disable it'. Be sure your system is completely backed up prior to attempting the firmware update, especially if you're running RAID on your M4 drive!!!

Is this how i should do it?

i Rusty, thanks

No i dont ave the option to boot to windows, just what i have in the screenshots ive posted - in tis case if i hit F8, iif i chose either of my 2 ssd's it boots to windows, but it has to be through the F8 option, and not the "boot override" as shown in "boot screen" picture

I am going to reinstall windows YET AGAIN, but with only my "supposedly" 64GB ssd installed

I bloody hate asus like!! support sucks - tech phone line tell me to fill in a tech enquiry form, wich is no good either!!

Thanks
