anyway this card is for 1440p and up resolutions, multi displays and whatnot... plain and simple !!! and anyone who buy this card know this already, and KNOWS hes getting a little "shafted" in the process biggrin.gif

in 1 word: for people that money doesnt bother too much AND have massive resolution to push

I'm buying it for 1080p.

Come at me. biggrin.gif

Say you're right which, I'm not able to confirm/deny, 2x 780's will cost 50$ or so more than a Titan and yet, have better overall performance.

See thats the whole problem with you. You just don`t get that:

- Not everyone goes by the rule that you should buy whats best in regards of performance/$
Have you seen the Nvidia financial results lately? Clearly they are selling GPUs like crazy although there is a little company that starts with A** that offer better performance/$

- Not everyone like SLI/CF configurations. Could be various reasons: Bad scaling with SLI/CF, more heat output to the system, takes more room, people like small builds

- GTX 680/780/7970GHz and all of those products have a lousy build quality compared to Titan. Have you seen Titan and compared it against all of them? Titan have a vapour chamber, it creates less noise and cools better than GTX 680 and a heck better than 7970GHz reference model. So clearly Nvidia have made something unique in terms of build quality. Titan is also made of aluminum and have a beautiful finish. This drags the price up.

- On top of this, Titan will most likely offer 40-50% better performance than the greatest single GPUs out there now. The refresh from Nvidia, aka GTX 780 will most likely offer around 20% better performance than 680 etc.

- You get muuuuuch better folding/GPGPU capability with Titan compared to other Keplers since they are garbage in that aspect.

- You get unlocked voltage to play with overclocking with Titan. With the other Keplers the voltage is locked.

So yeah, I totally understand why people want Titan. And I totally understand the performance/$ people that dig that. But I don`t say go on a forum telling that this is more right than the other. thumb.gif

Keep in mind Titan will overclock much, much, mucher high due to voltage control. It will probably be more like 60% even with stock cooler.

I hope so, I hear on LN2, Titan > 2x7970.

I am hoping overclocked on air that it will push that 43% to, like you said ~60%, but Linus mentioned that on water he sees them boosting to 1ghz so I think the 1.2ghz mark is a bit out of reach for anything over really high end watercooling or better. I don't think that a 8xx -> 1000 core overclock is going to get us our 17% performance boost though redface.gif

Other folks just don't know how to run quad, and keep whining about their mistake. Well, then sell it and get something else and for god's sake, quit whining.
Quad 690 will beat tri Titan. Period!

I actually have built many PC's with 2x690's and personally own, a dual rig with 4x680's and 4x7970's...I would never release a product without testing it.

I'm not making ignorant statements...I am making statements for which I can't provide 100% evidence for beyond my word, however.

"Folks don't know how to run quad"? Gjob trolling.

The X79 platform has immense microstuttering issues and scaling issues already...Enough so, that I'd actually argue that a 690/Titan would be the ideal answer. Nvidia/Intel even admit to the X79 having these issues so, I don't quite understand why this is even a discussion.

Dual 690's will not beat Tri-Titan, actually...The scalability is just not there. ~ In fact, I'd even argue that with a quad setup, you wouldn't beat 3 titans. Actually, considering the scaling, I'd almost bet you 2 titans beat 3 680's -- Not by much, though.

The ultimate issue is scaling and admitting there are flaws on the platform...Which have always existed...

So can someone clear it up?
Is this the next gen of nvidia or just some super high end premium limited edition card?
That 1/3 compute performance is impressive. Other than that, price/performance is bad.

Its a super high end premium card, but they removed the whole "limited" part I believe. It's a single GPU alternative to the 690 pretty much.

780 will be the "next gen" which will, almost certainly, be cheaper and have less performance than Titan.

That's because blanket statements that are not true (the other way around isn't true, either) are sensationalist crap meant to ruffle feathers. Anandtech loses respect by employing said poor journalistic integrity.
