Agreed but for 2k in gpu's it better have the performace to match that much cash. With this much performance and vram one would not need to upgrade gpu's for quite some time no matter what resolution you throw a it.

^ A funny and clever analogy, but as this is a somewhat unprecedented product that isn't even in the 6xx or 7xx family I wouldn't expect it to be de-throned by the next refresh. In fact if the Titan gets beat by the next refresh I'll eat the box it comes in.

Not really, the 5970 and 690 were never good buys for the price.
SLi GTX 670/680's performed better and cost less.

The price is based on popularity, rarity and getting that much performance on one card.

Go check it out: http://www.geforce.co.uk/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-titan/performance

I guess by now review sites should start asking Nvidia if they will let them publish benchmark results sooner.

Those results are at stock clock too......

Yeah, let's see what an overclock can do. Although from the Tom's Hardware preview they said that GPU Boost would go as high as 993 Mhz, so it's interesting to note that specific results from that graph were probably achieved with wildly different clocks. Some heavier games won't let it go much higher than stock, with others you might be at the target 876 Mhz, but in others it can apparently go all the way to 993 Mhz, with each card, and in each specific scenario (ambient temp, case temperature) performing differently, of course.

Quote:
In our World of Warcraft benchmark, for example, GeForce GTX Titan barely crests 70% of its board power. So, the GPU ramps up to 993 MHz, even as its temperature hovers around 77 degrees Celsius.

it's only a funny analogy that applies usually to every generation of GPUs. (aka new perf king for a few months, then dethroned)

i agree that the Titan wouldn't be beat in pure performance only by the next gen, but the improvements in perf of next gen so that let's say the difference would be ~20% (just throwing a number) instead of 40% at the same 500$ price would mean that the Titan wouldn't be as worth it at 1K$ as it was so in that sense it would be murdered sails wise. (not perf wise).

also next gen might introduce something new out of the blue like the titan out of nowhere gave us monitor refresh rate OC thing. no one knows what the future holds.

1 Titan doesn't make much sense. Sli or Tri sli water cooled Titans makes a lot of sense...if money isn't any issue.

Very true that the new GTX780 might be very close in performance to the TITAN, and about half the cost.

The thing is that the TITAN is giving performance better than the 780 RIGHT NOW as opposed to 6-8 months from now.

Honestly, that's the biggest thing that consumers are paying for - having this kind of performance from a single gpu right now.
