3GB on 256bit bus? whistle.gif

If they are adding cores up to 1920, they gonna need a wider memory bus. GTX 680 was a full GK104, not much left to do there
I hear ya on that.

GTX 660 Ti 3GB. Not saying it makes sense, but it can certainly be done.
and it doesn't make sense at all, I will say it for ya..

One of the bigger issues is memory bandwidth.

6GHz GDDR5 is about as high as it will go for stock cards, due to both GDDR chip and memory controller limitations. And it's not like GTX680 has a lot of spare bandwidth as is.

Yes, 3GB on 256bit bus. Anandtech has a good article on this, I would read up on this. It does sacrifice just a tad of raw memory bandwidth in certain scenarios but it shouldn't be too bad.

EDIT: Derp, I'm being retarded, 4 hours of sleep certainly doesn't help.

Scratch everything, except for my firm standing that GK114 shouldn't get a boost in bus width.

660Ti runs a 192 bit Bus.
and @ 1080p it does fine, larger and we'll have to renegotiate... tongue.gif

192bit bus you mean?

Oh well, we will see. 1920 is just rumors anyway. thumb.gif

It is indeed.

That said, I'm taking a look at the block diagrams off here: http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/59752-nvidia-geforce-gtx-titan-gk110-s-opening-act-2.html

And it seems that GK104 might have some room left on the die. See the bottom left corners? Might be spare room. Maybe 320bit configuration? Unlikely, but hasn't nvidia done this before?

They will engineer a new die using the same but slightly tweaked "building blocks". It doesn't have to be the same size...
Especially with well over a year to come up with a replacement, they have enough time to cook up something quite different.
GK104 is tiny with a very narrow bus for a high-end card. It's more of an exception than a common practice for Nvidia.
Well Nvidia does have a 320-bit K20 based part, so that could end up being the GTX 780 as opposed to GK114.
