I am sooo @$%$@%@ pissed. This card should be $499 MAX. And screw the extra charge for RAM, how much can an extra 3 GB cost? You can buy 12GB of RAM for $50.

They didn't take a mid-range chip: GK104 was meant to be GTX 680. GK104 was good enough to beat (at launch, pre-driver shenanigans by AMD with bad frametime-inducing "boosts") the Radeon competition and cost $50 less at the time to boot. And you can't buy 12gb of GDDR5 RAM rated for 6ghz for $50, sorry bud.

They took a mid-ranged GK104 chip and inflated the price to $500 for what should have been $299. They also locked voltages but despite these two things everyone and their god damn grandmother went out and bought one.

With the refresh of Kepler, they saw how desperate we were for "the real deal", so they released a $500 dollar flagship and are charging us a cool grand because they noticed how everyone was willing to sell off a kidney to buy this crap.

And they said, "look guys, remember how we screwed you guys over last time and locked voltages? well now it's back!! lookie here! here you go guys!". And like a bunch of kittens being toyed with, they gave us our yarn voltages "back" and we gladly accepted this and went about our way like it was nothing.

I am so ashamed off being an enthusiast. The sheer desperation you guys display is shocking. You guys would literally sell of your kidneys if a card was fast enough and marketed right.

I am sooo @$%$@%@ pissed. This card should be $499 MAX. And screw the extra charge for RAM, how much can an extra 3 GB cost? You can buy 12GB of RAM for $50.

We cant blame Nvidia for GK104 being the 680. if amd had released a 7970 that had actually performed well then nvidia wouldn't have released a mid range product as the 680. Cry all you want amd fans. Titan should have been the 680. The only reason it wasnt was because the 7970 underperformed. and could be matched by mid range kepler

And again your comment is irrelevant and has nothing to do with the price of the Titan being way out of line with its performance and setting a dangerous precedent that it's okay to charge $1000 for a consumer GPU. The 690 was worth the $1000; this is not.

Read my above post. The price of Titan has absolutely nothing to do with performance. It is not meant to be a "consumer grade" card.

No offense, but many of us who aren't rich see "luxury items" as being some of the stupidest things one could throw their money away on when they offer no tangible advantage over a non-luxury item.

Any random price you arbitrarily throw out is going to always be out of SOMEONE's reach or considered too high by SOMEONE. Just like you. And the Titan offers a VERY tangible advantage over a "non-luxury item" such as the GTX 670/680 (lol at the idea of saying that). Regardless, this is not a consumer card for the mass market, it is a luxury item with huge advantages to it. Buy it or don't, we really don't care about people complaining it's higher than they randomly feel they want to pay.

Whatever latency issues existed have been corrected with the 13 releases with no fps decreases, though I honestly do not notice any real difference at 1200p.

Then why were there no GK100 Teslas/Quadros? Why didn't GK110 Teslas drop til late Q4 2012? Why are we still waiting on GK110 Quadros? AMD offers next to no competition in those spaces at this point thanks to CUDA's dominance anyway; why would they bother?

GT 640 is percentage points behind a 690. It's a lot of percentage points though.

If Titan offers 85% of the 690's performance, 690 is 17% faster.

The 690 is also basically dual 680s. A 680 costs $500, a 690 costs $1000.

It's not about being within reach; it's about being in line with what the card offers. I didn't say $800 specifically, but somewhere in that range.

I never said the Titan is no better than the 680; what I meant is that paying more simply for luxury is a waste of good money. The 690 is 15-20% faster on average for the same price and therefore offers a far better value. The 7990 offers an even further better value, though CFX seems to have more issues than SLI (especially lack of support in some games).

Anand explained Titan's pricing and Nvidia's motivation for doing so very well. You should read their preview article.

Fair enough, though I'd like you to read my above edit.

Fair enough as well. Nobody said you had to buy a Titan or even that buying a Titan is a smart economic decision. I'm getting two because I can and because I want them bad enough to spend the money to get them. Others are free to do the same or to buy cheaper 680's (or to even stick with the 5870's they've been using for years)... thumb.gif
post #689 of 1636
Nvidia is not twisting anyones arm to buy one....buyer beware.

That said yes i do think its overpriced,if it sits on shevles then nv lost but something tells me they will sell well for a 1kusd card.
Its also good that some complane about price its healthy really cant take it bending over all the time redface.gif

The 690 is worth its price.
Titan holds no tangible advantage over what item?

Why are so many people hurt over the cost of Titan? If you can't afford it, look into other more affordable and cheaper alternatives.
