No NVIDIA is obviously out to scam everyone, they actually produce titans at $100 a card then sell them for $900 profit. rolleyes.gif Oh wait, that'd be a terrible business move and they'd actually profit more selling them at $500 if that was the case. tongue.gif

I really don't think the Titan's cost is much over what it cost to produce them. People will always be paranoid though, but i'll just be over here.. enjoying my Titan. redface.gif

They are trying to get min wage raised to $9/hr for a reason. Prices of everything have gone up.. I mean just buying food every month compared to 5 years ago, it's like triple and everything is in smaller packages.

My Aunt works at a welfare office, and she was saying people on welfare and disability are now getting 10-15% more in 2013. The cost of living in general has gone up.

I feel like most of you guys are forgetting how capitalism works... The few that do, kudos!

Pretty sure they know what they are doing, and if they don't, they'll drop the price later maybe...

I wouldn't be surprised if they would lose money selling it at $500.

I would be very surprised if they couldn't maintain their profit margins selling it at $800, especially if they used a more economical shroud/cooler.

Welcome to the world. People spend all kinds of money to show off to anonymous people. How many people who buy a Ferrari actually race them at the track? Why do people buy Coach bags? Or Chanel clothes?

Calm the f down guys.

If people want to blow $1k on anything, there is no reason to tell them otherwise unless they are asking for advice. I don't see anyone asking.

Price/performance always tapers towards the top and it looks like the Titan is an extreme example of this. Honestly, with the information we have now, it seems like Nvidia is attempting to gouge a bit. But if people want to spend the money on the cards, you and I have no place to say anything against their decision. Heck, I'm still on the fence with this until I see some actual benchmarks.

I was really hoping these would be $700-$800 and I am surprised the MSRP turned out to be what it is.

Please tell me this isn't a legitimate question? You think people buy Murderbox's to hide them in the closet? Spend days sleeving cables to not show them off? Spend hours benching 3dmark11 for that extra 3 points on their PScore not to post it anywhere? If the computing hobby was only about performance and nothing else, why do cases have windows? Why do we put lights in our rigs and list their components in our sigs? Why are their threads on how to take proper photos of our rigs? Get real man, showing off is a huge part of this hobby and if you deny it you're a liar... rolleyes.gif

there its corrected. thumb.gif add another USD 100 (150 max) over the GTX 580 3GB for the extra 3GB VRAM and good industrial design of the Titan. so yeah Titan's cost is well above what it costs to produce and sell profitably. its a simple case of lack of competition which allows Nvidia to do what they want with pricing. thumb.gif

I am seriously trying to understand why soooo many of you think it should be priced at $500 just because the old/current/future mainstream flagship cards are.

And of course something is niche because of it's price. That's kind of the point. If it was dirt cheap and everyone had it then it wouldn't be niche. Titan is suppose to be an expensive, high end, rare-ish card.... it's not a mainstream card.

And there is also a lower end kepler quadro card... big deal.

nVidia released a card because they could and because people would pay for it. Welcome to running a business. Their mainstream cards and price point aren't changing, shock.

Breaking news everybody. You don't have to buy a Titan. But please stop flooding this thread with reasons why you won't buy it or mostly simply can't afford it. We are all sorry for you and wish you could join the fun. But thats life. Since Ive joined the PC gaming world one thing immediately stood out. Its fairly cheap to have the best of whats available compared to other electronic or entertaiment hobbies. Do you have any idea what it cost to have the best home audio speakers or amp? Hundreds of thousands of dollars. Or how about the best projector for a home theater. Try 150 grand. A thousand dollar gpu is nothing especially since its giving you the best. We are extremely fortunate to have the best be so affordable. It could be much much worse.

I kind of wonder if the cooler is required to keep the card's temps at bay. Maybe they tried using a cheaper solution but the card would overheat? I dunno.. but I feel they could of done something to hit that $800 point, like removing 4GB of VRAM. They could of offered 2GB and 6GB versions.
