Asrock Extreme4 issues

Thread Starter
Just got this board and was able to put everything together last night, But I've noticed some issues with this board, at-least that I'm having.

1. An annoying sound when shutting down from windows 7, I think it has something to do with the driver or sound chipset.
2. UEFI bios is Slow, the mouse is very laggy.

any suggestions for fixing these issues?

another question, is it normal to get no CPU temperature readings when unlocking a 960T?

Unlocking AMD cpus often causes errors in temperature monitoring.

Laggy Bios is probably semi normal, does it lag when using keyboard?

What drivers did you install for sound? From disc or from asrock website for your mobo?

Also what exact mobo is it. Please list exact system specs so we can help better.

Thank you for the quick reply.

The mobo is ASRock 990FX Extreme4 with bios version 1.80

there is no lag with the keyboard,
but the mouse feels like its running on a really low polling rate or is only being polled at like 100ms intervals;
so this is normal for uefi bios?

I installed the sound driver from the disk.

EDIT: so there is no way to get correct temperatures in this case while unlocked?

never use disc drivers. NEVER

Always download the drivers from manufacturers website, then copy to a USB and install from usb on a clean windows install.

Try to reinstall the most current sound drivers.

I have never used that board but if it was an initial implementation of UEFI then a bit of lagginess is not crazy. I wouldn't worry too much. Once you are OCd and stable it wont be an issue.

I just checked the website and the driver versions are the same, even the archive they are contained is named the same; unless you mean check the realtek website(which is a superpain to navigate).

Don't bother with realCrap website. Have you googled your issue with the same sound chip?

think i fixed it, I removed all realtek related drivers with driverfusion, then reinstalled the audio drivers and it its seems the noise is gone.
I also think the bios option "On/Off Play" had something to do with it as i had turned that off when i first went into bios and it stopped, but i reset bios earlier and the noise came back, so that bios option may have something to do with it; oh well the the problems fixed now.

Also is there no way of getting accurate temperature readings when unlocked? it pretty much makes unlocking impossible if I can't monitor for safe temps.

Thank you for your help.

That was a common problem with unlocking. To my knowledge there really isn't a fix. Just put it at 4 cores and 4.2 GHz, that should be more than fine for most games. Do you need the 6 cores? If you do then unlock and do a more conservative OC to like 3.8 and check stabilty with prime overnight.

The lagging mouse in the bios is normal for the AsRock for some strange reason.

Ok, Thanks.
I was gonna test Skyrim with 6 cores just see if there was any difference; the games running on an average of 26 threads(I have most of the multi-threaded options on) so I figured why not, guess instead I'll just see I can push it to 4.2-4.5GHz.

Is 3GHz good for CPU-NB? and just leaving HT Link at 2GHz?
