so, full-speed FP64 calculation enabled, 95+% utilized titan does only 0.3mil PPD on milkyway, huh? very disappointing figures. i found some dude running his titan on primegrid and distrrtgen and it's even more frustrating.

i don't know anything about his setup, so i couldn't know for sure but

57,000 sec for 27,000 credit http://www.primegrid.com/results.php?hostid=286898
and 1,445 sec for 12,377 credit http://boinc.freerainbowtables.com/distrrtgen/results.php?hostid=46785&offset=0&show_names=0&state=3&appid=

these are quite disturbing figures considering its price tag.
double the price and unfortunately triple the calc time compared to 7970.
maybe i should just wait for 8970 or 20nm product.

Umm, what are you talking about???

My average PPD on milkyway with TWO highly overclocked GPU's is about 480K... you are almost doing that with ONE GPU!!!!!

Sheesh... some people never happy...

I would like to see how it runs Dirt and einstein with and without the FP64 enabled... bet it screams!!!

biggrin.gif

PS: If you base that on ONE days production, let it run a few more days... takes a while to get the stats steadied out..

well see, one thing we are going to have to accept is.. there are no apps optimized for titan (yet). they are running things designed for geforce 200 series and we have been running with them pretty much sense. there are a few programs that have apps optimized for fermi class cards (400)series. we'll just have to see as time passes.

I don't even think open cl is available for the Titan yet.

Nice card but way too expensive. Bring it down to $600 and I'd want to pick one up. Not that it's going to happen.

EDIT: LOL, I just noticed that this is in the BOINC thread. The only BOINC project I do doesn't support GPU. Don't mind me.

7970 could do 400+k on milyway and it's one chip too. (and it's almost one year old chip) i was expecting more for titan, at least slighly better than 7970 considering these figures.

7970 GHz w/boost - 365mm^2 die size / 4.31B transistors / 4.3TFLOPS FP32 / 1.07TFLOPS FP64 / $400~450
titan - 551mm^2 die size / 7.08B transistors / 4.5TFLOPS FP32 / 1.3TFOPS FP64 / $999

but it's 30% slower in milkyway and almost 3 times slower in distrrtgen so far. maybe it's app optimisation related thing and could be fixed in the future, but maybe it's just suck or won't be fixed.it's bad enough for me. if i, somehow, know this coming a month ago, i would buy 3 ARES II instead of 1 so that one of my host could earn 13.5 mil ppd on distrrtgen.

Kudos for running a titan on boinc for us! None of us are going to purchase a titan just to test out. thumb.gifthumb.gifthumb.gifthumb.gifthumb.gifthumb.gif

Try some other projects to see what likes the titan best.

I am going to respectfully disagree. I haven't seen any apples to apples compute numbers with the Titan and 7970, mainly because open cl isn't ready for the Titan yet. If you remember, the 7970 had some pretty lackluster performance numbers a year ago and it has come a long way. I am interested in what the Titan can do NOW, but I am also interested in the potential.

GPUGrid has Cuda 4.2 tasks that may run very well on the Titan... I would like to see that too...
