Every chip is different bro. You can't expect every chip to be able to hit a certain frequency at the same EXACT voltage.

Okay so if I can get stable at about 3.6 - 3.7 at 1.325 what do I do after I fail a blend test?

IMC is the integrated memory controller. before you mess with northbridge OC and overvolting we need to get just the cpu stable. Having ram running at higher than 1333 can cause instability with phenom 2.

Set ram speed from 800 to 666. (changes speed from 1600 effective to 1333 effective)

Start at 1.325 then run prime, once it fails at whatever clock that may be, then bump the voltage by one notch. test again. Rinse repeat until at desired OC.

Once you are at a stable and acceptable OC you can then worry about RAM and NB OC/stabilty.

It shouldn't matter that much. They can both be oc'd to 4ghz with similar voltage relatively speaking.

I was never able to get my 955 stable at 4.0, not all chips are created equal.

I had PHENOM X4 955/965/975 and PHENOM X4 960T (THUBAN unlocked )

Only 975 overclock with low voltage 4,2Ghz+++ but with very good cooler !!! 955 and 965 wants arround 1,5+for 3,9 -4Ghz !

Phenom 1090T / 960T/ 1055T wants 1,4-1,45 for 4-4,2Ghz !!!smile.gif

THUBAN
Average oc is between 3.8-4.2ghz with 1.4-1.48v.
DENEB
Average oc is between 3.7-4.1ghz with 1.45-1.55v.

Honestly guys the point of the thread is to assist the OP, not argue about OCing phenom ii.

With bigger steps !!! first 1,4v, then 1,425, then 1,45 ....

Exactly. You could start at 1.35 V if you wanted to be a bit more aggressive. You will most likely be stable with that voltage up to about 3.8.

Wow are you serious? You think I'll be stable at 3.8GHz with everything at stock and about 1.35V? I didn't think I could get that high stock...I would be incredibly happy with anywhere near 4.0 stable but I won't hold my breath.

Also, I noticed in the "Advanced" tab of my BIOS (where I disabled Cool N Quiet etc) there are two things named "Microcode Updation" and "Secure Virtual Machine Mode" they are both currently enabled...what are these and should I leave them enabled or disable them?

Dont know what those are specifically. Google is your friend, look it up.

I had cool n quiet enabled and my 955 was at 3.7 with 1.325 V. Just fyi.

Its when you hit the wall of OC vs Stock Voltage that you need excessive volts. With Phenom ii I always tried for a decent OC but with relatively low volts so temps stay very cool. Just my preference. Currently I have my 955 underclocked to 3.0 as it is in a rig used for gpu computations. Runs at about 45 C max load... lol
