Powercolor Radeon HD7970 Overclocking

Hey guys,

I'm tossing up between cards at the moment, and though I'd throw this out there.

How high would the above mentioned card be able to clock without additional water cooling.

Cheers

It depends on manufacturing variations. It's called the silicon lottery, and you may get lucky or you may not. There is no way to tell until you have it in your hands to test it out.

Different brands are important due to cooling, noise level, warranty - not overclockability, as that's basically random. I believe some MSI cards have cleaner VRM power allowing for slightly higher overclocks, but it's a touted feature.

It's completely random. I have a Powercolor PCS+ 7970 that is stock 1100 but will start to artifact above 1150. I've seen others pull 1300. The only thing manufacturers ensure is the base clock speed.
