[GameSpot] PlayStation Meeting 2013: PS4 Announcement? - Page 73

A touch pad on the controller? I hope that isnt intended to be used for gaming.

The rest of the announcement seems very underwhelming.

"Users will be able to pause a game, select a few minutes of recorded video of their most recent activity, and instruct the clip to be uploaded to a social network."

So my facebook will be spammed to death of stupid COD clips from next year? Someone remind me to delete my facebook account when the PS4 is released.

I guess a plus is that its using x86 architecture.

Well it's only being tasked with running games in 1080p @30fps. Even a single 470 could easily manage that these days wink.gif

Factor in the console optimizations and that hardware will have some serious legs. I'm pumped.

Also, given that the 670/680 can barely 'make use' of more than 2GB of vram, not sure how much utility 8GB of vram has on a sub-7870 part thinking.gif

Huge textures shouldn't be a problem on the PS4 though, that's for sure.
The 8GB is shared as system RAM as well, no? That means it will be loading a lot more than just textures.

What exactly would they have to do to appease you? Organic storage architecture or how about a custom built single unit device that acts as all the components in one with a few i/o connectors... what do you expect from the hardware with people complaining even about a 400-500 dollar price point. I swear there is no pleasing some people.

Sorry, I could have said that better.
The console specs are great, and I'm especially impressed with the RAM. Traditionally it seems like memory is one of the first things to bottleneck a console, and not only did they resist the temptation to cut costs on something with arguably little short term benefit, but they went with 8Gb of fast RAM. That will go a long way toward keeping the console competent in the future.

I just wish they would have fleshed out and emphasised Move, which actually worked well compared to the Wiimote, or did something radical with the controller. Not that they've ever done something like that before, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

I can't wait for the trickle down effect this will have for PC gaming.

it records gameplay as well. I bet a gig of that RAM is reserved just for video.

They are making the PS4 much easier to dev for, which could possibly translate to some great PC ports, and you guys are still complaining? rolleyes.gif

VRAM was my biggest complaint on current gen consoles.

High res textures on good models can make a game look amazing.
Low res texture textures on great models will make a game look terrible.

Can't wait for the PS4, day one buy for me.

I still don't get how they plan on using that 8GB Unified RAM.

32 bit system... 3.3GB for system? 4GB at a push. So, 4GB for VRAM?
