So I brought the PC down to a local shop, and it happens to be a faulty power supply. The PC posts fine with a corsair psu so I'm going to RMA it and get a corsair

Told ya that some Newegg reviews of people getting these PSU's DOA.

What Corsair PSU are you thinking of getting?

For your benefit please use the recommended PSU link I posted as your guide which has Corsair models listed.

Glad you got the former issue all sorted out! thumb.gif

How much watts do you think I'll need? I'll want headroom for overclocking and i am using a 8350, and starting out with a 7970 and possibly going to crossfire up to 3 in the future

For ONE 7970 at stock speed it needs about 200 - 210 watts (sometimes a bit more) then multiply that by three and add extra wattage for the overclocking - this is just for the GPU's.

Hope you have a generous PSU budget. biggrin.gif

EDIT: I'd say go with 1200 watts if you can swing it financially.

A nice Corsair AX1200 maybe.

Dat PSU...
Enjoy the rig when its finished mate, btw a 1k watts PSU will be more than sufficient for what you need.
You could have the FX and the 7970 off of a single 600watts PSU, a decent 1k watts will be more than enough, look at some seasonic PSU's, its basicly what Corsair uses iirc. And remember that having power to feed isn't everything, reliability is also important aswell.

Seasonic 1000w Platinum
Thats my recommendation

The OP is thinking of three 7970's plus being overclocked why my 1200 watt recommendation.

Sometimes the price difference is minimal between a 1000 watt and 1200 watt psu so why not have the extra wattage headroom for even further possible needs down the road.

I didn't disagree with you, but the quality matters alot. There's some 1.2k that cant power what some 1k psu's can.
If he finds a good purchase on a reliable 1200w unit I'd go for it. Not trying to compete or anything and you don't need to justify cause I agree with you lol
