So Would a FX-8350 Last Longer/Be More Future Proof Compared to an i5-3570K? - Page 2

Hmm perhaps, I was just worried quad core processors were not going to be enough for games coming out in 3-4 year's time.
I wouldn't worry about that. Quad-cores are pretty much mainstream today, and that's what software developers will be targeting for several years to come. Intel has most of the market, and their focus in the consumer market is on dual-core i3's and quad i5's. AMD offers more than four cores because their chips have a lower IPC and need the extra cores to keep up. Even in three or four years, with everything optimized for quads, the Intel cores are still going to do more work than the AMD cores do. The 8350's four additional cores might make it a winner, but it won't be by much.

We're just now getting to the point where a single-core CPU is obsolete because everything is targeted for a dual-core, and we've had dual-core CPU's since 2004, and in the mainstream since 2005.

See what I am getting at? You are worrying over nothing.

The whole CPU buisness is a shame anyway, some bored teenage kid in Florida named Chipp or something started this site and im sure he is even sick of computers at this point. He likes the ad revenue now so why give the site up? No one who comes to this site wants to "really" be here bro, I thought you knew that. Most of the
people on high end systems just use it for the sole purpose to argue about the 8350 vs 3770, etc.and then look at porn between rants, buy steam games they never play and get a complex about the computer thing they bought a few months ago is now inferior based on a benchmark. Did that just happen in this thread?. I believe it did.

The person who came to this site once November 2008 and bought a i7 920 and a 4870 and never came back is the happiest PC gamer alive today. Thats the only thing anyone here has needed the last 5 years to play games correctly.

No one here is happy with what they have because of the culture around here, its a sickness, dont even get Haswell. That random guy with the 990x is worried right now about something. Why should he be, BECAUSE HE IS STUCK HERE to be reminded how someone has a 3770k that performs for cheaper than his CPU. He has got to justify his purchase for the next year and this is the perfect place to do so. He will participate in a 60 page rant if he has too that will be edited by an arrogant British man when your asleep. He doesnt even play computer games anymore because of this place, his original intent, everyones original intent. God Bless/Help us all.

Come here 5 years later and look at benchmarks for Crysis 7 with your 3770k in the middle somewhere. I am serious when I say this.

Lol... if there were a book made about pc forums.... this could easily be the summary.
Sorry AMD

I see. In that case I would just wait for haswell since its already march.

I don't know what you guys are talking about, I saw some good gains going from 4ghz i7 920 to 5ghz FX 8350 in gaming.

FX 8350 does poorly in older games that are single threaded, and better in newer games that are more threaded. When the FX does bad, it's offering playable frame rates on old games. When the Intel quad does bad, it's offering a worse experience on newer games that seems to be gradually getting worse.

However my vote is to wait for Steamroller if you can. The only thing Intel has to offer is 3% to 5% increase in quad cores every year if you're staying on the lower end socket. AMD is offering a lot more for the enthusiast right now, you're going to have a lot more fun overclocking it and playing with AMD than Intel.

Intel overclocking is very easy and it looks like Haswell is going to hit the same walls IB did. It's just that Haswell has a strap you can play with for base clock to CPU and that's it.

Consider what it takes to overclock 3570k. Raise multiplier, maybe raise vcore, and you're done. Notice how AMD forum still has a thread where people are discussing how to overclock the chip and Intel is just about new products? There's a ton of things to mess with with PD and it all affects performance. I've seen my CB11.5 score jump 10% at the same CPU frequency just from messing with things.

But if you still want to go Intel, I suggest you at least go with a 8 thread model. But the little research I've seen done on the subject leads me to believe that HT increases frame time by a good amount.

With the new consoles both sporting amd 8 cores, and with a lot of games being ports with a few added features i would have to say yes, that an amd 8350 would be more "future proof" then an i5 3570k.
