LF laptop/ultrabook - 13.3~ish portability and function are key

atm I'm not looking to spend alot - the cheaper the better but I dont want a pos again.

I have a acer 4810tz that I got for pretty cheap (my wife mainly uses) but it runs dog slow and its a tad too big for taking too and fro to work (carry on a train journey etc).

I prefer to get one in the UK but can purchase in the states in a 4-6 months if need be.

Read some reviews on the asus zenbook prime ux31a or 32 etc
seemed pretty close to what I'm looking for.
a few things thou:

#1 I have a crucial m4 256 gig SSD that I was curious if I could use in the laptop
#2 I'd prefer to have a ethernet port and some decent memory 4 or more
#3 lightweight and thin a pretty important; just dont know if I want to spend 1000+ for it like some of these new ultrabooks seem to be running.
#4 I may do some light gaming on it but nothing fancy; ill save my fancy gaming for my home pc.
#5 also like some decent battery life when I visit home (UK to US).
#6 could do with something subpar atm and later get something better
#7 14" could be too big I think 13.3 would work better not looking to go too small movies, websurfing in comfort.
#8 latop will have 2 main users; wife whom like to surf shopping sites and websurfing and myself whom will take to work and use in the downtime (long train journey and lots of downtime at work).
#9 again the cheaper the better atm ... unless it might be worth it in the long run

any suggestions?

Asus U38N

asus-u38n-11-12-12-01.jpg

-1080p 13.3" IPS touchscreen
-Backlit keyboard, zenbook all metal body.
-A10-4655m CPU/GPU: perfect for light gaming on battery.
-2.5" hdd (your m4 will fit in there), and i think theres room for an msata ssd too
-48whr 4-5 hour battery. The cpu/gpu is potentially undervoltable
-ethernet, several USB 3.0 ports, HDMI
-$850 shipped right now

Sounds too good to be true, right?

Well, it is.

Its not for sale in the US yet, though it may be soon. But with the weak yen, it's $800 from Amazon japan right now, and another $50 to ship it here, a bit more for Europe and other regions. Asus tech support said it's warranty is international.

In fact, that may be overkill. A now cheaper HP folio would suit your needs nicely, but wont game that well. A 14" samsung series 5 with an A10 would work, a UX31a or ideapad yoga would be a nice alternative to the U38N.

FYI, the U38N is available in the UK, but prices seem to be pretty absurd

thanks for all the info -

took a look at those you listed -

the samsung looks pretty nice; although its a bit heavier, a 14" - although it was a ethernet connection where the asus does not; also it has a dvd drive (but to be honest I dont need that).

that asus does look nice and I happened to find the thread on the notebookreview forums ... and seems like quite a bit of people having some quality control issues ... and yes nothing here in the UK or the US atm ...
I could live without a ethernet in exchange for a touchscreen and a 13.3 lightweight notebook ... I know new stuff is coming out in 6 months or so but Id really like to get one within a month if possible.

ya some of these ultrabooks for 1000+usd seems quite high ...
